A View from the Hill FFA banquet May 11
By Doris Brosnan
Yesterday brought back the sunshine and brought
a sunny reason to celebrate to Willow Creek Terrace.
Randall Peterson turned 94 years old. For his birthday
lunch Randall chose spaghetti and meatballs to share
with neighbors and friends. Birthdays are always viewed
with enthusiasm, so residents and staff will be looking
forward to May 17, when Virginia Peck celebrates her
87 th birthday.
The change in the weather has also allowed Alex
Camarillo to work his magic in the flower beds around
the Terrace, contributing to the inviting look that Derek
Swanson is working on as the new landscape employee.
He was very appreciative last weekend when “Jimmer”
and Steve Lankford came to help him with the initial
spring clean-up of the yard. And Jerry Green impressed
everyone with the plant starts he had nurtured in the
windows of his apartment all winter and this spring. He
contributed 17 geraniums to the outdoor projects!
Last Friday featured a new event in the Terrace
kitchen: “Cooking with Flossie” was a great hit, as she
instructed and led her assistant in the successful and tasty
production of “peanut butter popcorn.” This Friday, the
event will return when residents and staff gather round
to witness “Cooking with Dorothy” and then sample
Dorothy Green’s no-bake cookies.
Daily and weekly routine activities will continue
through the month, even though the Terrace is presently
short-staffed while five new trainees are working toward
bolstering those numbers and contributing to the care of
residents on the Hill.
Residents always enjoy visiting with volunteers, so
interested readers are encouraged to call 541-676-0004
or drop by to discuss their volunteering ideas. When
Mustang Mop-Up brings HHS students to the Hill on the
18 th , the residents will be eager to watch them accomplish
some tasks and to share some refreshments with them.
Mother’s Day will be a special day at Willow Creek
Terrace, of course, as will Memorial Day, both including
some meaningful morning discussions and some visitors.
In the meantime, life in the community will move along
routinely, with welcome interludes that make some days
especially special, which most residents view as abso-
lutely just fine.
