Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, April 12, 2023 -- SEVEN Ione middle school attends Lady Mustangs sprint to first track meet of season third in Pendleton meet The Heppner/Ione Mustang baseball team went two for one in its first three league games of the season last week. In three matchups with Irrigon, the Mustangs won 3-2 on April 4 and 5-2 on April 8, before losing the second game of a double-header 4-6. The Mustangs are currently ranked tenth in 2A/1A baseball and have a 2-1 league record with a 7-3 record overall. Hunter Scoggin, 20’ 2PR Cardinals take fourth at Buckaroo Round Up The Ione Cardinal men’s varsity track and field team took fourth place out of a field of 16 at the Buckaroo Round Up meet last Thursday, April 6, at St. Paul High School. Not only did the Cardi- nals secure a top spot as a team with their score of 53, but several individuals also found places on the podi- um. Bryce Rollins took first in the shot put and discus, while Mika Limberg placed second in both the 400-me- ter and 800-meter races. The girls won both halves of a double header against Irrigon Monday by im- pressive margins, 16-1 and 20-7. The Mustang team is part of 2A/1A Special District 6 and is currently ranked #23 in 2A/1A. The Heppner women scored 61 points as a team at the track and field meet Friday, April 7, at Pendleton High School. The women’s team also made its mark on an indi- vidual basis, with several athletes finding places on the podium and nearly ev- ery team member setting personal or season records. The women’s 4x400 relay team of Arianna Worden, Irelynn Kollman, Lily Nichols and Hallee Hisler placed first with 4:34.46. Lily Nichols placed first in the 800-meter with a personal record (PR) of 2:36.72 and third in the 1500-meter with a PR of 5:14.46. Hallee Hisler placed third in the 200-me- ter with a season record (SR) of 28.13. The Heppner men placed seventh as a team with 42 points, and also saw several individuals either place or set personal records. Trevor Nichols placed first in the 1500-me- ter race with an SR of 4:17.50, and second in the 800-meter with an SR of 2:02.24.
