Dorene Alise Sue Carol
(Strunk) Reed Townsend-
Wiegand
Dorene Alise (Strunk)
Reed was born Feb. 16,
1936,
in Van-
couver,
WA t o
Lester
and Hil-
degarde
(Groth) Strunk and went
home to her Lord on Jan.
14, 2023, at Providence
Hospital in Hood River,
OR. She was 86 years old. A
memorial service was held
on the Jan. 28 in Cascade
Locks, OR.
Dorene graduated from
Evergreen High School in
Vancouver, WA and then
attended business school at
Cascade College in Port-
land, OR. She was previ-
ously married to Ray Grace
and had two children.
She was a single parent
to her two children and
worked at the Heppner ply-
wood mill, where she met
Leon Reed, the love of her
life. They married on Aug.
11, 1978. Leon also has
four daughters. Dorene con-
tinued to work with Leon
at the plywood mill and
then at the potato plant in
Boardman until they moved
to Leedey, OK where they
ran the Reed Furniture store
until they closed it. Dorene
then became the city clerk/
treasurer for the City of
Leedey. Dorene lived on the
Reed family homestead for
41 years until they moved to
Cascade Locks with daugh-
ter and son-in-law (Debra
and Dan) in October 2021.
Dorene was not only a
devoted wife and mother
but was a strong Christian
follower, playing the piano
and organ to serve the Lord.
Dorene played for the Red
Star Church in Leedey and
the Cascade Locks Com-
munity Church until her
passing.
Dorene was preced-
ed in death by her par-
ents, Lester and Hilde-
garde Strunk; brother, Leon
Strunk; granddaughter, Pa-
mela Ferguison; grandsons,
James Sharp and Michael
Ferguison.
Dorene is survived by
her husband, Leon Reed;
sister, Grace (Strunk)
Dickson; son, Clay Grace
(Lolita); daughters, Debra
Reed-Sharp (Dan Sharp),
Kathy Bolin (Gene), Rob-
bin (Reed) Ferguison, Mes-
chelle (Grace) Whitaker
(Hal), and Kimberly (Reed)
Williams (Colin). Dorene
also has 16 surviving grand-
children, 37 great-grand-
children and one great-
great-grandchild.
Dorene will be deeply
missed.

Sue was the daughter of
Pat and Hershal Townsend,
formerly from Ione. She
was born in The Dalles,
OR. She graduated from
Ione High School in the
class of ‘64 and completed
her education at the Exec-
utive Business College in
Portland.
She had two siblings,
Mancell Townsend (de-
ceased) and Brenda Hox-
sey of Warrenton. She
was married and divorced
from James Wiegand. She
worked for collection agen-
cies but was most proud of
her work with the Oregon
State Employment Depart-
ment, where she collect-
ed a million dollars from
written-off fraud accounts
before retiring in 2012.
Sue didn’t have chil-
dren because of cancer
issues as a child but leaves
behind her sister Bren-
da; brother-in-law Norm
Hoxsey; nephews Brent
Portschy and Rod Portschy;
niece Denise Hoxsey Con-
nolly; great-nephews and
nieces Brendan, Brant, Tris-
ta, Ali, Caroline, Olivia,
Savannah and Maddie; plus
several great-great-nieces
and nephews.
Patti Portschy, Brent’s
wife, was her caregiver
several weeks before she
was hospitalized.

Kendrick
Andr`a Lee Kendrick,
64, died at his home on
Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023.
A memorial service will be
held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb.
10, at the Ione Community
Obituaries
Church.
Andr`a was born May
6, 1958,

Weathers
and Susie
Kendrick. At the age of 18,
Andr`a entered the United
States Army for education
through the tank tech divi-
sion and was stationed in
Fort Knox, KY.
He later went on to
do odd jobs until he start-
ed working for a trucking
company, where his love for
driving and travel started.
That job even found him
his way to the love of his
life, Susan Thompson, at a
truck stop outside of King-
man, AZ in 1986. On July
29, 1989, Andra` and Susan
married.
Living in Kingman,
Andr`a took on a waste
management position,
where he was a huge rea-
son to the company’s suc-
cess, as he mapped out
entire routes for the trucks’
waste pickup schedule that
changed the performance of
the company significantly.
The Kendrick family,
now including children
Stormy, Skyler and Shad-
ow, moved to Ione closer to
Susan’s family. A few years
later, Andr`a went back to
school and got his associ-
ates degree in plumbing at
Blue Mountain Community
College. Andr`a, a jack of
all trades, took on his own
business as a landscaping
and plumbing consultant
for the last 15 years.
Andr`a loved collec-
tions of coins, comic books,
baseball cards and greeting
cards, and playing games
like chess and the dice game

music and education and,
above all, his love for his
family.
He is survived by:
wife Susan, son Skyler and
daughter Shadow Kendrick.
Andr`a was proceeded
in death by his son, Stormy
Kendrick.

moving to Pendleton and
transitioning to a career in
human services.
Over the past 40 years,
Alice has performed as a
section string player with
the Yakima, Washing-
ton-Idaho, Grande Ronde,
and Mid-Columbia Sym-
phonies. She served as Con-
certmaster for the Walla
Walla Symphony and Ore-
gon East Symphony before
becoming a proud founding
member of Inland North-
west Musicians in 1999.
Alice is Concertmaster of
the Inland Northwest Or-
chestra, also serving as the
orchestra’s music librarian
and as recording secretary
for the INWM Board of
Directors. She plays a Josef
Klotz violin made in 1795.
Alice has been working
in the disability services
field for 35 years. She is
currently the program man-
ager of the Employer Re-
source Connection Program
with The Arc Oregon.

The orchestra will also
present “Pavane” by Gabri-
el Faure, the Overture from
the “Marriage of Figaro” by
Wolfgang Mozart, and will
conclude the concert with
the magnificent “Italian
Symphony” by Felix Men-
delssohn.
Founded in 1999, In-
land Northwest Musicians
is comprised of volunteer
musicians from throughout
Northeastern Oregon and
Southeastern Washington.
The performance ensem-
bles include the Inland
Northwest Orchestra, In-
land Northwest Chorale and
Willow Creek Symphony,
all of whom present con-
certs throughout the region
in communities of all sizes.
There is no admission
charge for any of the con-
certs presented by Inland
Northwest Musicians, but
the program is funded by
corporate sponsors, grants,
local concert sponsorships
and individual donations.
This performance is be-
ing funded by the Morrow
County Unified Recreation
District.
