BPD receives hard-won accreditation
After several years of
work, Boardman Police
Department has received
state accreditation through
the Oregon Accreditation
Alliance. Such accredita-
tion means that the Board-
man PD meets the state’s
“best practice” standards.
It is a voluntary process
to achieve accreditation,
which is a “highly-prized
recognition of law enforce-
ment professional excel-
lence.”
“After three years of
hard work, I am excited
to say that the Boardman
Police Department has re-
ceived our state accred-
itation,” the department
posted on its Facebook
page. “I am very proud of
all the hard work our team
does every day to serve our
community.”

ing application, self-assess-
ment, on-site assessment,
board review and continued
compliance.
To be certified by the
Oregon Accreditation Al-
liance is to receive a seal
of approval that the Board-
man Police Department’s
policies, procedures and
practices are aligned with
an identified international
set of best practices in crit-
ical areas of high risk and
liability, accountability, and
transparency. It also ensures
the police department is
operating efficiently and
meeting the community’s
needs.
BPD says the accredi-
tation process is one more
step the department has
taken to build trust and
legitimacy within its com-
munity.
“Our team takes great
pride in knowing we em-
ploy outstanding police of-
ficers and support staff that
do their best every day to
care for our community and
live up to the ever-chang-
ing ‘best practice’ policing
standards identified across
our state and throughout
the nation,” the police de-
partment’s statement con-
cluded.

Club will meet for one
last time before Christmas
break this Saturday at 10
a.m. at Flood Town Books
in Heppner.
The club, started and
led by Heppner student Sa-
mantha Lamb, gives local
youth a chance to explore
the art of Japanese anime
and its roots in Japanese
culture. Participants also
have to chance to learn
more about Japanese cul-
ture in general, practice
Japanese writing and work
on anime drawings togeth-
er. This week’s theme will
be Anime Christmas—pos-
sibly including a Pikachu
and a Santa hat.
The club will take a
break over winter break and
resume again in January.
