On Thursday, Oct. 13,
the fourth-ranked Mus-
tangs hosted the number-
one-ranked Tigers in their
seventh league game this
season.
Thursday night was
also senior night for the
volleyball girls. Five se-
niors and their parents were
honored before the varsity
volleyball game.
The seniors that were
recognized were Darallynn
Teeman, #3, Katie Wilson,
#4, Hailey Cimmiyotti,
#18, Dusty Robinson, #22,
and Hailey Wenberg, #33,
#15, #1.
The Mustangs started
strong in the first game
of the match. They didn’t
score the first point but
didn’t let the Tigers get far,
tying 1-1 for the first time
in the game.
Heppner’s Dara Tee-
man then served for six in
a row, bringing Heppner to
a 6-1 lead over Stanfield
before an attempted block
by the Mustangs dropped
on their side of the net.
Now, the score at 6-2,
Stanfield served for five in
a row, bringing their score
to 6-6 once again, tied with
Heppner. Hallee Hisler
spiked the ball in bounds
for a kill that brought the
ball back into Heppner’s
possession. With the score
at 7-6, Morgan Custforth
served for the Mustangs
and opened with an ace,
bringing the score to 8-6.
Morgan continued to
serve five more times be-
fore Heppner lost the ball
on an out.
During the set, Hep-
pner and Stanfield tied a
total of seven times.
It was a high-paced,
intense game that had the
Mustangs working hard,
digging almost every sin-
gle hit the Tigers had to
dish out. Unfortunately,
the Heppner Mustangs ulti-
mately fell to the Stanfield
Tigers, allowing the Tigers
to solidify their position
for the week at the top spot
of the Blue Mountain Con-
ference.
“Even though we lost,
we played well tonight.
The team worked hard and
well together. I am proud of
their efforts,” said Heppner
coach Mindy Wilson.

The entire student body
of Ione Community School
participated in a number
of events to celebrate the
school’s 2022 homecom-
ing. Monday was kicked
off with dress up day and
mud wars, Tuesday was
a home volleyball game,
Wednesday featured macho
man volleyball and powder
puff football, and Thursday
boasted another volleyball
game, class lip sync con-
test, noise parade and the
community bonfire. The
culmination of the week
was the home football game
and homecoming dance.
“I think the best part
of homecoming was the
participation by our ASB
and the fireworks after the
football game by the Ione
Rural Fire Department,”
said student body president,
Madison Orem. “It was a
lot of work putting on all
the events, but it was fun!”
Each class voted on
their class representatives
for homecoming court and
the entire high school stu-
dent body voted on the
kindergarten crown bearers.
Adults volunteers were
also an important part of
the week, including ASB
advisor Erin Heideman,
principal Kevin Dinning,
and volunteer judges Cara
Osmin, Stacey Wainwright,
Madison Rietmann, Linda
Neiffer, Becky Doherty,
Janie Allen, Betty Gray,
Melissa LaRue and Todd
Knop. Joe Orem dug the
mud wars pit, the Ione
Rural Fire Department pre-
pared and maintained the
bonfire and put on the fire-
works show during football
half time. Drivers of the
noise parade floats were
Kevin Dinning, Joe Orem,
Erin Heideman and Martin
Medina.
“We are grateful for all
of the support our commu-
nity shows our students,”
said Ione School District
Superintendent Kevin Din-
ning. “Our students are
some of the best and it is
a direct testament of our
incredible community.”
