Ione bake sale deemed success
The bake sale for
Ukraine Refugees held
by the Ione Communi-
ty Church, with support
from other area church-
es, that was held May 1 st
was deemed “an amazingly
successful bake sale,” ac-
cording to sale chairperson
Betty Rietmann. “We had
hoped for $5,000 but with
anonymous donations from
very generous people we
raised far more.” She went
on to say, “As gratifying as
it was to raise so much for
the refugees, it was wonder-
ful to see our communities
coming back together for
coffee, conversation and a
good cause on a beautiful
day in the park.”
The donations raised
will be personally delivered
by Pastor Clabaugh to a
church actively involved
in getting refugees settled
in this country as soon as
possible.

The Mustang golf team
has had a very successful
season this year. The team
was able to earn themselves
another week of golf as the
team placed third at their
district tournament in Pend-
leton. The team played the
same course for two days
in a row, and after two days
of competition the team
came in third by shoot-
ing a 906. Second place
Vale shot a 900 behind the
district champion Grant
Union Prospectors who
shot an 877. The team now
competes in the 3A/2A/1A
state championships in
Banks, OR. Individually
Cody Fletcher was just one
place out of fifth, which
would have allowed him to
compete in the individual
portion of the competition.
Fletcher shot a 196 two-day
score.
The Mustang softball
team rounded out the sea-
son with a home game
against Irrigon and a road
doubleheader in Union,
competing with the Union/
Cove softball team. Hep-
pner grabbed a run rule
win over Irrigon 11-1, be-
fore falling to the Union/
Cove co-op 14-7, and 13-3.
Heppner concludes a very
challenging season, and
graduates three seniors,
Aubrey Blakely, Kassidy
Henrichs and Kylie Boor.
The young team will look
to build next season, as they
return much of their lineup.
Heppner baseball dom-
inated the Lyle/Wishram/
Klickitat co-op team in
two run rule wins, 19-0 and
24-1. Heppner won game
one behind an explosive
offense, and a combined
no-hitter from the Mustang
pitchers Toby Nation and
Zander Fisher. Heppner
scored their 19 runs on 16
hits. Nation and Cameron
Proudfoot each batted in
four runs as the Mustangs
rolled. Game two Heppner
continued their hot bats,
scoring 24 runs on 23 hits.
Nation, Proudfoot, Caden
George and Jake Lentz each
batted in three runs. Tucker
Ashbeck batted in four runs
in his return to action after
missing time due to injury.
The Mustang baseball
team scheduled a last-min-
ute doubleheader with 3A
Horizon Christian, Tualatin.
The team will head down
for the road doubleheader
on Wednesday. Heppner
golf competed at state on
Monday and Tuesday, and
the Heppner track team will
head to Eugene for its state
track competition as well.
