Kollman won the race and Worden placed second. By Hannah Finch Last Friday, May 13, Heppner Track and Field traveled to Athena for Dis- tricts, where they would claim five district cham- pion titles. Ten Heppner athletes, including all five girls, qualified for state and will travel to Hayward Field in Eugene to compete this Thursday and Friday. The top three places on the 1500m podium be- longed to Heppner’s girls. District champion Irelynn Kollman won the 1500m with Arianna Worden plac- ing second and Saige Jen- son placing third. Kollman ran a 5:27, Worden ran a 5:29 and Jensen a 5:46. Jensen would later place second in the 3000m to qualify for state as well. Taking on the title of District Champion in the 800m was Trevor Nichols and Hannah Finch. Nichols, currently ranked first in the state, ran a speedy 2:02, and Finch ran a 2:25 to break the girls 800m school record. Also competing in the 800m and qualifying for state along with Nich- ols and Finch was Irelynn Kollman, who placed third overall. Joseph Sherman (2:09) placed fourth and Jacob Finch (2:11) placed fifth. Trevor Nichols also took second in the 1500m, running 4:15 and qualifying for state. Nichols is current- ly ranked fifth in the state for the 1500m and 3000m. Hannah Finch claimed another district champion title for Heppner in the triple jump, qualifying for state with a jump of 32’6. Trevor Nichols runs the 1500m, placing second and qualifying for state. Saige Jensen runs in the 3000m, placing second and qualifying for state. Freshman Hallee Hisler qualified for state in the 200m, placing second and running a speedy time of 27.96. Hisler also qualified for the 400m. Freshman Hayden Mc- Mahon placed fourth in the 100m, running a quick 12.14. McMahon also fin- ished fifth in long jump with a leap of 17’2.5. Also placing in the jumps was Ty Boor, who placed fourth in triple jump with a season record of 36’4.5. Joseph Sherman stood on the high jump podium at second place, jumping 5’8 and qualifying for state. Conor Brosnan, cur- rently ranked third in the state, also qualified and will be competing this weekend as well. The girls 4x400m relay team (Arianna Worden, Irelynn Kollman, Hallee Hisler, Hannah Finch) ran a time of 4:24 to take the district title. The girls are currently ranked first in the state. The boys 4x400m relay team (Jacob Finch, Ed Ellsworth, Joseph Sherman, Trevor Nichols) ran a quick time of 3:43 and also quali- fied for state. The team will travel to Hayward Field in Eugene to compete at the state level on Thursday and Friday, May 19 and 20.
