completed their jobs just like it was any
other day. My office can’t offer the services
we do without them. I want everyone to
know how grateful I am to have them work
for me and you. I’d also like to thank all the
election workers that help us run great
elections in Morrow County.

In 2021 a small group
of residents in Lexington
wanted to start something
positive to draw the com-
munity together. They de-
cided that “May Day” was
a good time to celebrate the
town, the community and
the coming of spring.
Spring is ushering in
with new life of livestock
and the springing up of
crops, the growing of gar-
dens and leaving winter be-
hind. “The goal was to bring
a few traditions of May Day
and add some more that we
hope will grow and carry
on for years to come. We
wanted to supplement the
surrounding communities
and add to the opportunities
to come together,” noted
Juli Kennedy, Lexington’s
mayor. “As Heppner has
St. Patrick’s Celebration,
Ione has the 4 th of July and
now Lexington has May
Day. It has been a very long
time since Lexington has
had anything like this and
the responses have been
overwhelming,” Kennedy
continued.
The committee is look-
ing forward to seeing ev-
eryone Saturday, May 7 at
the town hall in Lexington,
425 F Street. They kick off
the morning at 9 a.m. with
a 5k run/walk, there will be
pies, baked goods, a bouncy
house, kid’s activities and a
parade at 11 a.m. that goes
down Arcade Street and
back to town hall. The event
will also host food vendors,
raffles, a car show and a
corn hole tournament.
There will be an open
house at the Bellamy House
(old Lexington school)
from noon to 4 p.m. on
May 7 as well with a candi-
date’s forum sponsored by
the Republican Party from
12:30 to 2 p.m.
The Lexington Fire
Department is having a
breakfast that morning at
8 a.m. as well and the pro-
ceeds for the breakfast will
go to the Fire Department.
The rest of the fundraising
going on will be going to
help our Grand Marshal
Asher Schonbachler for
medical needs. Watch next
week’s issue of the Heppner
Gazette-Times for a story
about Asher.
