Mustangs continue spring sport competitions
By Blake Carter
Heppner baseball has
had a hectic week. After the
snowfall this past week, the
team was unable to travel
to John Day for a Tuesday
matchup with Grant Union/
Prairie City. They were
also forced to move their
Thursday double head-
er with Pendleton to Bob
White Field in Pendleton.
Heppner loaded up the bus
and headed down for a pair
of games with the Pend-
leton JV team. Heppner
would play their varsity in
the first contest against the
Pendleton JV, Heppner then
rolled out the JV team for
a game with the Pendleton
JV2 team. Heppner fell in
both games, with the first
contest counting towards
the Mustangs overall team
record.
Heppner got off to a
great start in game one,
scoring two runs in the first
and second innings en route
to building a 4-0 lead. The

Mustangs built the lead after
Kason Cimmiyotti reached
first on an error. Cimmiyo-
tti would steal second, and
advance to third off of an
error from the Pendleton
defense. Toby Nation then
ripped a ball down the left
field line and scored the
runner. Cameron Proudfoot
then came through and hit a
single back up the middle to
score Nation from second.
Heppner started off the
second inning with a double
from Carson Eyenetich.
Jake Lentz then laid down a
bunt to place runners at first
and third for the Mustangs.
Lentz stole second before
Ryan Lindsay sent a high
fly ball into center field to
score Eyenetich and ad-
vance Lentz to third. Caden
George would send a line
drive into center to score
Lentz and put Heppner up
4-0. However, Heppner
seemed to fall apart after
this point, allowing six
Pendleton runs to score in
the bottom of the second.
Heppner would commit
eight errors, which would
out shadow the 13 hits
Heppner had on the day.

Heppner softball has
had a slow start to the
season. Lack of competi-
tion has not been an issue
though, the Mustang’s op-
ponents are a combined 39-
16, this shows the amount
of competition the young
team has been facing. The
Lady Mustangs, however,
continued to battle this last
weekend as they hosted
the Elgin and Imbler co-
op softball team. Heppner
rolled to two big wins in
rule fashion. Heppner took
game one 11-1 and domi-
nated game two 18-4.
