Mustangs back at it after
spring break
By Blake Carter
The Mustang spring
sport teams are back in full
swing after the weeklong
break. Some teams contin-
ued to compete through the
break while others took the
time off. However, all four
teams battled in a variety
of competitions this past
week.
The Mustang baseball
team played three contests
this past week and looked
to rebound from their tough
double header loss to Baker.
Heppner traveled to Pilot
Rock on Tuesday where
they rolled to a 15-3 vic-
tory. Heppner’s bats were
hot on Tuesday as Heppner
hit two triples in the game.
Tucker Ashbeck and Toby
Nation combined to allow
just three runs on the day.
Saturday, they hosted
Union for a double header
where Heppner shut out the
Bobcats in both games as
they cruised to two, 10-0
run rule wins. Heppner
stayed electric with their
bats as they batted around
multiple times. Tucker
Ashbeck threw a complete
game shutout in game one
while Toby Nation did the
same in game two. Heppner
moves to a 4-2 record and a
3-0 league record. Heppner
will face Grant Union on
Tuesday, April 5 in a pivotal
league matchup early in the
season. Heppner will also
take on Sherman County
on Saturday for two league
games.
The Lady Mustang
softball team also played
three games, Tuesday in
Irrigon, and Friday at home
for a double header with
Weston-McEwen. The Lady
‘Stangs grabbed their first
win of the season as they
traveled to Irrigon where
they had a convincing 23-9
win. Heppner turned around
for two tough games with
Weston-McEwen where
they lost both games. The
Lady ‘Stangs will look
forward to two tough dou-
ble headers this week on
Tuesday and Friday. Friday
afternoon will be a tough
matchup with the highly
ranked Grant Union Pros-
pectors.
