Two Mustang wrestlers compete at state
Two Heppner Mus-
tang wrestlers qualified
to compete in the OSAA
1A/2A State Championship
tournament last week. Forty
teams were represented at
the tournament.
Senior Conor Bros-
nan and sophomore Cade
Cunningham placed in the
top three in their respec-
tive weight classes at the
Special District IV tour-
nament the previous week
and thereby earned their
participant passes to state.
Cunningham was a
195-lb district champion.
Brosnan finished his high
school wrestling career by
taking home a fourth-place
medal at 182-lbs and earn-
ing a spot in the March of
Champions Saturday night.
He suffered his first loss of
the day in the quarter-final
bout and had to take the
long road back to the medal
round, needing to win three
consecutive matches to be-
come a state placer. He won
four matches and lost two in
the tournament and scored
all of the team’s points.
Only the top four wres-
tlers of each weight class
are recognized with medals
and earn the coveted title
of State Placer. Heppner
wrestlers have won one or
more medals at the state
tournament in thirteen of
the last fourteen years.
