Mustangs place 4 th at district meet
The Heppner Mustangs
wrestling team competed
Saturday at the OSAA Spe-
cial District 4 champion-
ship tournament in Adrian,
OR. Seven of the eight
Mustangs placed in the top
four in their weight class,
with five fourth place med-
als, one third place medal
and one district champion.
As a team, Heppner placed
fourth overall out of the
thirteen teams competing.
Culver won the team cham-
pionship with twenty-seven
wrestlers entered in the
tournament.
Cade Cunningham, a
sophomore, continued his
winning streak and was
the district champion at
195-lbs. This season Cun-
ningham won gold medals
in the JO-HI and Pine Eagle
tournaments and was a
finalist in the Oregon Trail
County Championships and
the Bank of Eastern Oregon
Invitational. He pinned his
first two opponents at the
district tournament, then
dominated in the champi-
onship bout with a 10-2
major decision over Clancy
Rutledge of Culver. He
will enter the OSAA State
Championship Tournament
as the number two seed on
Saturday.

nament as a wild card entry
with a third-place finish at
districts.
Roen Waite (120-lbs),
Zac Brown (126-lbs), Saul
Lopez (138-lbs), Tyler Boor
(160-lbs) and Nathan Ells-
worth (220-lbs) all brought
home fourth place medals
and will be alternates for the Conor Brosnan pins Culver opponent
state tournament if another
wrestler in their weight
bracket drops out. Edward
Ellsworth (152-lbs) also
competed for the Mustangs
and was 2-2 in the tourna-
ment.
