In the context of widespread community transmission of COVID-19, case investigation and
contact tracing cannot effectively slow the spread of disease. The current and rapidly growing surge
of COVID-19 cases driven by the Omicron variant has outpaced the capacity of the public health
system to effectively conduct active case investigation and contact tracing. Given the burdens to
the entire public health infrastructure and the need to pivot resources to higher priority public health
measures, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) is adjusting case investigation and outreach efforts.
OHA will move away from individual investigation and contact tracing calls to focus on investigating
outbreaks in high-risk settings (congregate care living, food chain, healthcare, and K-12 settings).
People who have COVID-19 need to self-isolate for 5 days or until 24 hours after fever has passed
and other symptoms are improving. People that test positive at home can also access these same
services. Then they should continue to wear a well-fitting mask around others for 5 more days to
keep from spreading the virus and making others sick.
Even if you don’t have symptoms or feel sick, self-isolate for at least 5 days after you are first
diagnosed with COVID-19.
If you have tested positive you can visit Oregon.gov/positivecovidtest
or call 866-917-8881 (toll free) if you need assistance.
Call 866-917-8881 if:
• You want more health information
• You have questions about isolation or quarantine
• You have questions about telling your close contacts they may have been exposed to COVID-19
• You need to isolate and are worried about the ability to do that
Hours: M-F from 8am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm
The COVID-19 vaccine is effective. It appears that the COVID-19 vaccines continue to protect against severe disease, and boosters provide an additional layer of
protection against infection and severe disease.
We know how to protect ourselves and others.
• Get vaccinated now if you’re not. Vaccination remains the best protection against serious illness and spread of disease. Vaccine is now available for anyone who is
age 5 or older.
• If you’re age 12 or older you are eligible for a booster, make your appointment today. Boosters provide an extra layer of protection.
• Wear a mask when away from home.
• Keep a physical distance from people outside your home.
• Wash hands frequently.
