Specialist. Carolyn Papin-
eau’s retirement date was
Nov. 25 after also working
for the county 27 years
since 1997. She started as
a light equipment operator
and worked her way up to
a Senior Maintenance Spe-
cialist. “These are valued
employees that are going
to be missed and we wish
them well in whatever the
next chapter in their life
happens to be,” said Com-
mission Chair Russell.
In other business re-
lated to the new planned
bus line going in between
Boardman, the Port of Mor-
row and Hermiston, it was
reported that the county
has ordered three new 22-
ft buses and one 33-ft bus
for the line. Transportation
Coordinator Katie Imes
presented the commission-
ers with several different
graphic designs for the new
buses. The commissioners
suggested several changes
and revisions. The designs
will be large vehicle wraps
to showcase the businesses
and landscape of Morrow
County in the bus designs.
In other transportation
business the commissioners
approved awarding a con-
tract to Pivot Architecture
for $98,540 to develop
a Bus Barn and Transit
Facility for the new bus
line. Money for the buses
and the new facilities will
come from state and federal
grants.

Christmas tree permits
now available
Permits available hardcopy and online through
Recreation.gov
Christmas tree permits
for the Umatilla National
Forest are now available to
purchase at Forest offices,
several local businesses and
online through Recreation.

For the second year, all
national forests are selling
Christmas tree permits on-
line via Recreation.gov as
an added convenience for
the public and alternative
to in-person interactions.
Christmas tree permits
purchased online must be
printed to be valid and can
only be used on Umatilla
National Forest lands, as
specified on the permit.
Christmas tree permits
cost $5 each and are limited
to one per household. An
additional $2.50 fee will
be charged for permits pur-
chased through Recreation.

Traditional Christmas
tree permits are still avail-
able through Umatilla Na-
tional Forest offices and
several local businesses. All
Umatilla National Forest
offices are still offering vir-
tual services to the public.
Individuals interested in
purchasing a Christmas tree
permit from the Forest di-
rectly may call any National
Forest office or send an
email to r6_umatilla_pub-
lic_inquiries@fs.fed.us. A
Forest employee will assist
individuals with procedures
to receive the Christmas
tree permit in the mail upon
receipt of payment.
Participating vendors
are conveniently open eve-
ning and weekend hours.
Locally, Heppner Mobil is
on the list as a vendor. A
complete list of vendors is
available online. Tradition-
al permits are valid on Na-
tional Forest System lands
only and do not authorize
tree cutting on private, state
or other federally managed
lands.
As part of the national
Every Kid Outdoors initia-
tive, all fourth graders are
eligible for a free Christmas
tree permit from their local
National Forest. For stu-
dents to receive a free tree
permit, they must present a
valid paper voucher printed
from Every Kid Outdoors

low instructions to obtain
and print the paper voucher.
