Heppner’s JV volley-
ball girls proved their resil-
ience to Grant Union during
the games last Thursday,
September 16. The two
teams played a total of five
sets, with the scores tied at
several points throughout
each game. Grant Union
won the first set; Heppner
won the second and then
Grant Union won the third.
In nearly each set, it was
one point after the other,
with Heppner scoring, then
Grant Union and then Hep-
pner again. The back-and-
forth victories continued
with Heppner winning the
fourth and by the time the
fifth set rolled around, the
tension was high.
By this time, the stu-
dent section was growing.
Heppner won the fifth and
final set, claiming ultimate
victory over the match and
getting the gym fired up and
ready for the Varsity game
that was to follow.
Although Heppner Var-
sity lost 0-3, this did not dis-
hearten the Mustangs. The
crowd was decked out in
blue and gold, and the stu-
dent section was the stron-
gest it had been in a long
pep only climbed higher.
When the games finished,
all of Heppner’s students,
including the volleyball
players, gathered together
on the court to chant the
school fight song. The play-
ers left the gym with their
heads held high.
Those who would like
to support the Mustangs and
see this newfound strength
in the student section for
yourself, the girls will be
playing Pilot Rock this
Thursday, September 23, at
Heppner High School. JV
begins at 5 p.m. followed by
Varsity at about 6:30 p.m.
