Heppner High celebrates homecoming with noise parade

One of the highlights
of Heppner High School’s
Homecoming is the an-
nual noise parade. This
year, there was a little extra
noise. Students climbed
on their floats with brass
instruments, hand cymbals
and entire drum kits. Each
class decorated their own
floats according to this
year’s theme, which was
“Just Keep Swimming”.
If you were watching
the parade, you would have
heard a few songs amidst
the cheering and crashing
of cymbals. Following the
noise parade, a student led
pep rally was held at the
football field. Heppner’s
students carried this noise
to the volleyball game later
that night, and it’s evident
that it’s not leaving anytime
soon.

Cattle truck crash shuts down

A cattle truck hauling dairy cows crashed Monday night, blocking the highway for more than
five hours.
A cattle truck hauling
a load of 36 dairy cows
tipped over on Hwy 207 at
milepost 6B near Baseline
on Monday, September 20
around 9 p.m. The Morrow
County Sheriff ’s Office
was assisted by local fire
crews, farmers, vets and
contractors to extricate the
cows. The trailer was cut
open to remove the animals
and they were placed in a
temporary corral nearby.
According to the press
release from Undersheriff
John Bowles, “Russ Smith,
with the Echo Fire Depart-
ment, had his Kubota trac-
tor that was used to assist in
extricating the cows, which
was a big help. This was a
large scene that took a lot
of work. After the efforts
of all involved 31 of the 36
cows survived the crash and
the driver was not injured.”
Bowles continued, “The
roadway was closed for
over five hours.”
