By Doris Brosnan When eight good work- ers and good equipment take on a task, good things can happen. And that was exactly the story from the cemetery in Hardman last week, as reported in a GT article today. Eight Hep- pner IOOF lodge members again cleaned up the ceme- tery before Memorial-Day weekend. Every year, sev- eral visitors appreciate this plot of history and many memories recalled by the grave-stone inscriptions, some recent, some dating from its 1888 creation. The colors and textures of the decorations placed on the resting places of loved ones on the weekend cer- tainly represent a show of respect and the honoring of loved ones who have passed away. So, too, the placing of the American flags at the site of the military members who served our country. As many residents fo- cused on this long week- end, the first that has really allowed freedom to camp or travel to see family or friends, their thoughts did not linger over possible good news to send this way. Thus, these few brief entries. As this column came together, I was awaiting my Salem family’s arrival, looking forward to having Darci, Angie and young Amy for a visit. Katie could not come because she was starting her first job, in the concession stand of a swimming pool that opened for the season on the long weekend. Speaking of jobs, looks like a wide range of job opportunities are available in our area. Two different opportunities exist in the plumbing business, and the list grows. The city is looking for a utility worker, and the Elks, the health dis- trict, the county fair board and the schools all have job openings. Check with the Chamber of Commerce or go online to the various entities’ web sites. I am confident that much more good news will come our way after this long respite from daily rou- tines, these welcome social contacts, so please share your “tidbits” by sending them to dbrosnan123@ gmail.com or calling 541- 676-5382 or 541-223-1490 or stopping me on the street. Here’s hoping that some good news comes to everyone reading this. Town and Country event around the corner Heppner Chamber’s Annual Town and Country Community Awards event is just around the corner.
