Heppner AWANA Club
is wrapping up the club year
with its traditional Grand
Prix event for members and
their parents this weekend.
This will be the first
and last in-person event of
the 2020-21 year for the
club, which has been meet-
ing virtually via Zoom due
to COVID-19 restrictions.
The AWANA Grand
Prix car races will be held
at 3 p.m. this Sunday, April
18. The event will be held
near the Heppner exercise
park on Riverside if the
weather holds. The backup
venue, in case of bad weath-
er, is the Heppner Christian
Church basement on Gale
Street.
The Heppner AWANA
program is the combined
effort of local churches to
teach children what the
Bible is all about. AWANA
stands for “Approved Work-
men Are Not Ashamed,”
based on II Timothy 2:15.
Games, songs and a Bible
lesson are included during
a typical club meeting.
Club leaders say they were
nervous about going virtu-
al with the long-standing
Heppner club, but the for-
mat worked surprisingly
well—though they also say
they are anxious to return
to in-person meetings next
fall.

NA Club, contact AWANA
