Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, March 17, 2021 -- SEVEN
Mustangs trample Tigers
The Heppner Mustang
football team won their
second game of the season
as they defeated the Stan-
field Tigers 46-0. So far
this season the Mustangs
(2-0) have outscored their
opponents 81-0.
Heppner kicked off to
start the game. The power-
ful Mustang defense started
a string of three-and-outs
that made it a long night
for the Stanfield offense.
A Tiger punt from deep in
their own territory gave the
Mustangs the ball at the
Stanfield 22-yard line. After
only a few plays, Heppner
scored on a seven-yard
touchdown run by Jayden
Wilson. The Mustangs led
early in the game 6-0.
The Tigers were forced
again to punt from deep on
their side of the field. Jack-
son Lehman caught the ball
at the 39-yard line, he then
got some great blocking
from the rest of the team
which allowed him to take
it the distance for the score.
Conor Brosnan kicked the
extra point to give the Mus-
tangs a 13-0 lead as the first
quarter came to an end.
Another Tiger punt
gave the Mustangs the ball
near midfield. After two
Wilson to Kason Cimmiyo-
tti pass completions, Wilson
ran the ball 31 yards for
another touchdown. The
Brosnan extra-point kick
was good to extend the
Mustang lead to 20-0.
The Heppner defense
forced another Stanfield
punt that Lehman caught at
the Mustang 43-yard line.

the left side of the field, and
he took the ball 57 yards
untouched for another Mus-
tang touchdown. Heppner
now led the game 26-0.
Another three-and-out
gave the ball back to the
Mustangs in good position
near midfield. Just four
plays later, Wilson com-
pleted a pass to Cimmiyotti
who ran the ball in from
30 yards out for the touch-
down. That score gave the
Mustangs a 32-0 lead at
halftime.
Stanfield kicked off to
start the second half and
Cimmiyotti returned the
ball to the 40-yard line. Jace
Coe then carried the ball 17
yards to the Tiger 43-yard
line. Heppner scored on the
next play when Wilson ran
to the right side of the field
and broke several tackles
in route to a 43-yard touch-
down. That made the score
38-0 just one minute into
the third quarter.
At this point of the
game, the Heppner coaches
began to substitute freely.
Stanfield was able to put
a small drive together that
took up the rest of the time
in the third quarter.
As the fourth quarter
started, the Mustangs got
the ball back on downs and
started their own drive. A
twelve-play drive that ate
up all but two minutes of
the fourth quarter ended in a
score. Quarterback Landon
Mitchell handed the ball
off to Caden George who
scored from four yards out.
Mitchell then ran the ball
in to score the 2-pt. con-
version and make the final
score of the game 46-0.
The Mustangs amassed
13 first downs and only
allowed Stanfield six. Hep-
pner had 245 total yards
of offense in the game and
only allowed Stanfield 65.
Wilson was 4-5 pass-
ing the ball for 64 yards
and a touchdown. Mitchell
was also 4-5 on the night
and passed for 39 yards.
Cimmiyotti led the team
in receiving with 40 yards
on two catches. Cameron
Proudfoot caught two balls
for 23 yards and Saul Lopez
also had two catches for
16 yards. Lehman had one
catch for 15 yards and Coe
had a reception for nine.
Leading the team in
rushing was Wilson with
84 yards on five attempts
and he scored three times.
Brock Hisler finished with
21 yards on five carries and
Coe had one run for 17.
Proudfoot carried the ball
three times for 16 yards
while George rushed the
ball three times for three to-
tal yards and a touchdown.
Derrick Smith carried the
ball one time and gained
one yard.
An outstanding all-
around defensive effort by
the Mustangs was led by
Hisler and Brosnan with
seven tackles each. Blane
Mahoney was next with
six tackles and Lehman
had five. With three tackles
in the game were Hayden
Hyatt, Tucker Ashbeck,
Ty Boor and Lopez. With
two tackles each in the
game were Mikel Jaca,
Roy Collins, George and
Coe. Recording one tackle
on the night were Blake
Carter, Kegan Steagall,
