The Umatilla National Forest will host a field trip to the proposed Ellis Inte- grated Vegetation Project (Ellis Project) on Oct. 22, 2020. The purpose of the field trip is to share in- formation about the Ellis Project, discuss project objectives and proposed alternatives, and to gather information from the pub- lic about values that they would like the Forest Ser- vice to consider in project development. The Ellis Project en- compasses 110,000 acres spanning both the Heppner and North Fork John Day Ranger Districts of the Umatilla National Forest. The project is designed to increase forest health and vigor; enhance shrub- lands, aspen and meadows; improve wildlife habitat; decrease wildfire risk; and provide timber to support local economies. Proposed actions for the project include forest thinning, BEO Bancorp reports third quarter earnings BEO Bancorp and its subsidiary, Bank of Eastern Oregon, announced third quarter 2020 consolidated net income of $1,366,000 or $1.15 per share. Total assets were $692.4 million; net loans of $518.3 million; deposits were at $552.6 million. shareholders’ eq- uity was at $41.0 million. “2020 continues to be a very interesting year, unlike anything any of us have ever experienced with pandemics, fires, floods, political and social unrest. Even with the strange eco- nomic environment that goes along with these fac- tors, the bank had good earnings for 3 rd quarter 2020. As a predominantly agricultural-based bank, we, along with our com- munities, are impacted by the ups and downs of farm- ing and ranching. We are pleased that, for the most part, crop yields were above average, there was decent feed in the summer grazing areas and commodity prices have rebounded from ear- Umatilla Forest to host field trip prescribed fire, improving elk distribution and for- age, placing large wood in meadow streams, invasive species management and road modifications. The Ellis Project plan- ning team is currently de- veloping draft alternatives. The Forest will host a vir- tual community meeting later this fall. Additional information regarding the virtual meeting will be forthcoming. Chief Financial Officer Mark Lemmon said, “In- terest rates continue to be at record lows; good if you are borrowing but discour- aging for depositors. The Fed’s monetary policy has flooded the market with li- quidity in order to stimulate the economy, pushing rates downward. It appears we will be in this rate cycle for a while.” Chief Operations Of- ficer Gary Propheter said, “We thank our custom- ers for their patience and understanding as COVID precautions have at times disrupted normal branch hours and availability. We are also very proud of our employees’ attitudes and work ethic, as all of us nav- igate strange times indeed.” Bailey concluded, “During third quarter we were able to eliminate our other real estate owned and continue to make sure that our loan loss reserve is funded appropriately. Most factors point toward an improving economy, but we are at the mercy of COVID, elections and so many factors outside of anyone’s control. A prime example of how quickly things can change are the wildfires that have ravaged areas of the west. Our hearts go out to those impacted by these devastating fires.” DEADLINE: MONDAYS AT 5PM Owner/Broker David Sykes d o y oU h ave s omething t o s hare ? 541-980-6674 188 W. Willow P.O.
