July 27: Morrow County Sheriff ’s Office received a report at Ma- ple Crest Apartments on Wilson Rd SW, Boardman that an intoxicated male is trying to hit his daughter. Male was given a verbal warning for camping on CORP property and having a campfire there. Kevin Blackett was arrested by MCSO for menacing, dis- orderly conduct and ha- rassment. Lodged at UCJ with bail of $15,000. Smith looks for shortfalls in state budget ‘We’ll need to prepare for the worst situation and tighten our belts’ By Andrew Sykes Oregon Representative Greg Smith, speaking to the Port of Morrow, has voiced concerns about looming state revenue shortfall and the inevitable reduction of state and local budgets. Due to the economic shutdown as a response to the spread of COVID-19, future revenue to the state will be greatly diminished. “Life as we know it, for public funding, has been turned upside down,” said Rep. Smith, projecting a 20-25 percent reduction in available funding. Ore- gon’s constitution requires a balanced budget and to meet the balanced budget requirement. “We will have to reduce services,” he said. Future budget negotia- tions will determine which services are to be reduced and by how much. Lot- tery income has been par- ticularly affected by the slowdown in economic activity, and the state is predicting $250,000,000 to $500,000,000 reduction in lottery revenues. Which, in lottery revenues, amount to approximate five percent of the state’s revenue.
