DEADLINE:
MONDAYS
AT 5PM
A View from the Hill
By Doris Brosnan
‘Twas not the parade
anticipated last month but
certainly a spirited one,
as Raymond and Norma
French traveled the halls
of Willow Creek Terrace as
Grand Marshals of the Big
Green Parade that wasn’t.
The Frenches and Ray-
mond’s ducks strolled in
their green paraphernalia,
with Irish music blaring, as
delighted neighbors viewed
their Irish pride and spirit.
Life on the hill has
now resumed to almost
routine, as everyone awaits
the warmer spring weath-
er. Routine includes the
morning exercises and dis-
cussions, the Bingo games,
the crossword puzzles and
the Saturday matinees. Now
added to these activities,
Wii games will be entertain-
ing participants on Wednes-
days.
As March ended on
Tuesday, the community
was busy planting seeds
in their small pots. Hopes
are that green sprouts will
soon promise flowering
plants for the outdoor beds.
Garden seed was planted in
the enclosed area, so some
of the Terrace’s menus will
include homegrown veg-
gies this summer.
Today always brings
Velma Wight to Adminis-
trator George Nairns’ mind.
On every April Fools’ Day,
Velma succeeded in fool-
ing Nairns with an antic.
The staff reported that they
would have some tricks
up their sleeves today, but
they wouldn’t give anything
away.
April brings some spe-
cial events, also. High on
the list will be Joyce Ward’s
birthday celebration on the
6 th .
Discussions this month
offer some opportunities to
walk down memory lane.
“Reading a Road Map Day”
on the 4 th will bring to mind
some road trip and some
experiences with trying to
read a map. The movie that
day will be related to travel
in some way. Remember
the first Twinkie you ate?
The treat celebrates its 90 th
birthday on the 6 th . Talk
about Slinkys will bring a
smile on its 75 th birthday on
the 7 th . Siblings will be the
topic on their special day,
April 10. Bringing flushed
cheeks and smiles could be
the topic on the 26 th when
“First Kisses” will take
center stage.
The annual coloring
of Easter eggs will occupy
some residents and staff as
they prepare for their Easter
egg hunt, their Easter treats
and their “Angel” eggs
(as opposed to “Deviled”
eggs.).
Scrabble has its special
recognition on April 13,
so Scrabble boards will
be available for the word
mavens. Of course, the last
day for filing of income-tax
returns has been delayed,
but some residents could
still satisfy themselves by
seeing their obligations out
of the way on the 15 th .
On the 17 th the Ford
Mustang is celebrated, and
the Terrace community is
inviting all Mustang own-
ers in the area to celebrate
with a parade of Mustangs
past their home on that
day. Residents will all be
watching and listening for
the hoots and toots at 5:30
that evening. Come one,
come all, Mustangers.
Adding to their list of
pampering – manicures,
pedicures – residents will
be able to have facials on
the 21 st .
The Jellybean is re-
galed on the 22 nd , so the
staff will do what they can
to incorporate jelly beans
into the day. “Penguin Day”
on the 25 th invites the view-
ing of the movie, March of
the Penguins.
“ Wr i t i n g a n O l d
Friend” will be featured on
the 27 th , when residents will
be encouraged to reach out
to someone with a letter or
card. And on the 30 th a card
will be sent to the hairstyl-
ists who usually come to
the Terrace, to show appre-
ciation.
Communication during
these uncommon days has
been a challenge, but a time
to appreciate landline and
cell phones, and the fre-
quent on-each-side-of-the-
windows visits as residents
and family members make
do in a tough situation. Now
added to those opportuni-
ties, the Terrace has estab-
lished the “family chats”
Sundays, when residents
can video call with friends
and relatives. A view of a
loved one is so important
any time, and the residents
view this capability right
now as even more import-
ant to their well-being.
