The Heppner Mus-
tang boys’ basketball team
dropped a pair of Blue
Mountain Conference
games last weekend. The
Mustangs lost to the Grant
Union Prospectors by the
score of 61-47 and then
were beaten by the Pilot
Rock Rockets 57-45.
In the game with the
Prospectors, the Mustangs
fell behind 19-1 early in
the first quarter. They did
not panic and slowly started
a comeback that saw the
Mustangs trail at the end of
the first quarter 19-14. Half-
way through the second
quarter the Mustangs took
the lead by the score of 21-
19. Heppner had gone on a
20-0 run to take the lead in
the game. The last time the
Mustangs had the lead in
the first half was at 25-24
and then they were down
at halftime by the score of
31-26.
The game stayed close
early in the second half
as the Mustangs were
only down 32-29 midway
through the third quarter
when Grant Union started
to take control and pull
away. The Prospectors led
the game at the end of the
third quarter 45-31.

the highly ranked Rockets.
Again Heppner started the
game out slowly and trailed
the Rockets 14-3 at the end
of the first quarter. The
Heppner shooting slump
carried on into the second
quarter and the Mustangs
trailed at the half 25-12.
Heppner couldn’t get
any closer in the third quar-
ter and trailed 39-25. The
Pilot Rock lead ballooned
to 18 points twice in the
fourth quarter but the Mus-
tangs worked hard and
battled back. They actual-
ly outscored the Rockets
20-18 in the quarter but
it wasn’t enough and the
Mustangs lost the game by
the score of 57-45.
