WIND FARM -Continued from PAGE ONE 16 miles northeast of Hep- pner and will span Mor- row County and Umatilla County. There will be a power corridor connecting the two. The wind turbines, with a peak generating capacity of up to 500 megawatts (MW); solar facility com- ponents include up to 150 MW of photovoltaic solar energy system and up to 41 distributed energy storage system sites, will be located on approximately 14,624 acres. There is expected to be up to 300 jobs during construction of the wind site and up to 175 jobs during construction of the solar and storage sites. Ap- proximately 10 full-time employees will operate the combined facilities once they are in service. Morrow County is also preparing for the big con- struction project. Public works set up a negotiating team to work with the con- struction company for a road use agreement while the wind towers are being installed. A preliminary design has shown that all the county roads will be af- fected during construction and road boss Matt Scrivner has said he does not want county roads to suffer main- tenance problems because of the project. Also the county has completed a tax agreement with NextEra called a Stra- tegic Investment Program or SIP. Mustangs compete in tournament The Heppner Mustang boys’ basketball team won one game and lost one at the 2A East-West Preview Tournament held at the Pendleton Convention Cen- ter. The Mustangs beat the Illinois Valley Cougars by the score of 64-42 but then lost to the Gervais Cougars 37-32. Against Illinois Valley, the Mustangs jumped out to a 12-10 lead after the first quarter and led 28-22 at the half. The third quarter saw the Mustangs outscore the Cougars 16-9 and in the final quarter Heppner out- scored Illinois Valley 20-11. That gave the Mustangs the win by the score of 64-42. Jayden Wilson led the team in scoring with 18. He also had four rebounds and an assist. Roy Collins poured in 17 points, had six rebounds and a steal for the Mustangs. Mason Lehman had 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in a good all- around game. Kellen Grant and Jackson Lehman both scored five points in the game. Kellen also had three rebounds while Jackson added two assist and three steals. Brock Hisler con- tributed four points, five re- bounds, two assists and two steals for the team. Gavin Hanna-Robinson and Casey Fletcher had two points each. Gavin also ripped down nine rebounds, had two assists and two steals while Casey also had four rebounds. Jorden Sweeney had an assist, a rebound and a steal and Kannon Wilkins had two assists and two rebounds in the game. The scoring didn’t come near as easily the next day against the tall and athletic Gervais Cougars. The teams stayed close to each other throughout the second half and the Mustangs had their chances to win, but their shots just wouldn’t fall and they ended up losing to Gervais 37-32. Jackson Lehman led the team in scoring with seven. Mason Lehman and Hisler were next with six points each. The Mustangs open up Blue Mountain Con- ference play on January 3, at the Weston-McEwen Tigerscots. They then have a home game on January 4, against the Irrigon Knights.
