Last week was busy
for the Mustang wres-
tlers as they saw action in
Echo at the Oregon Trail
County Championships
on Wednesday and at the
Mac-Hi X-mas Tourney
in Milton-Freewater on
Saturday. Heppner had sev-
en wrestlers competing in
Echo.
Roen Waite wrestled at
113 pounds and went one
for two and placed third.
Bryan Collins, wrestling at
120 pounds, placed third
also with one win by pin and
a loss by points. Saul Lopez
had a breakout tournament
and placed second in the
championship. He ended up
with one victory by points
and lost the Championship
bout by points to a wrestler
from Hermiston.
Edward Ellsworth
competed at 145 pounds
and placed sixth with two
victories and one defeat.
Heppner had two wrestlers
competing at 160 pounds,
Jace Coe and Conor Bros-
nan. Conor would end the
day in fifth place with three
victories by fall and one
defeat by a fall. He placed
fifth. Jace Coe wrestled
his way to a first-place
finish by two falls and one
injury default. Suzanneah
(Suzy) Cason wrestled, at
132 pounds, in the wom-
en’s bracket and also had a
breakout tournament. She
would end up with two
victories and one defeat on
her way to a second-place
finish.
On Saturday, the Mus-
tang’s wrestled at Mac-
Hi with multiple athletes
reaching the podium. Once
again, Roen Waite wrestled
at 113 pounds and placed
second with two victo-
ries and one defeat. Bryan
Collins competed at 120
pounds and would come
away with a third-place fin-
ish. Bryan finished the day
with one victory by fall and
one defeat. Suzy Cason had
a tough tournament com-
peting in the men’s bracket
and ended the day with
two losses at 132 pounds.
Saul Lopez also competed
at 132 pounds and had
another great tournament
by placing first. He ended
the day with two victories
and no defeats. Once again,
Heppner had two wrestlers
competing at 160 pounds,
Jace Coe and Conor Bros-
nan. The two would end
up facing each other in the
championship match after
each of them won two vic-
tories. Jace would claim the
victory with a hard-fought
battle that ended four to
three. The team earned a
fifth place finish out of ten
teams competing.
The young wrestlers
get a two-week break and
will be back in action on
January 3 at Joseph in a

the Mustangs outscored
them in the second quar-
ter 15-10 to tie the score

scoring 16 and holding the
Mustangs to only 10 points.
