The council also re-
viewed the minutes of the
Nov. 21 city utility com-
mission. At that meeting
the commission discussed
the recent visit to town of
the engineers looking over
the upcoming big Gale and
Chase Street rehabilitation
projects. The engineers had
recommended that bump-
outs, or projections of a
pedestrian area out into the
street like main street in
Heppner, be added all along
Gale. The commission was
not in favor of that except
for the Center Street inter-
section. Engineers claim
if added, the bump outs
reduce speeding on a street.
Landscaping strips along
Gale will also be removed
as they are not maintained
by homeowners and would
become an eyesore.
The commission was
told the entire tear up and
replacement of Gale will be
in the public right of way
and not infringe on private
property. Power poles were
discussed and it was noted
that some of the poles are
old Heppner Cable TV
poles and can be removed
entirely.
There is also a $300,000
set aside for replacing old
sewer lines when the streets
are torn up during construc-
tion. In addition, Cutsforth
said he was contacted by
businesses interested in
running fiber optic cable
through town. He suggests
that conduit be installed
during the street rehab proj-
ect for possible future use
by the fiber companies.
Cutsforth said cutting up
a brand-new street was not
an option.

Conor Brosnan placed third
in the 170-pound weight
class.
Also wrestling for
Heppner were Suzanneah
Cason, Saul Lopez and Ed-
ward Ellsworth. This first
outing for the Mustangs
is impressive considering
four of the six wrestlers
were playing in the football
state championship only six
days prior to the tournament
and only had three days of
practice.
The Mustangs next
tournament will be the
Muilenberg Tournament in
La Grande starting at 3 p.m.
on Friday.
The Heppner High
School wrestling team
traveled to Enterprise last
Friday for the Enterprise
Kick Off tournament, the
first action of the year. The
tournament hosted 14 teams
from throughout eastern
Oregon.
Heppner ended up the
day placing 8 th as a team
and three wrestlers made
it to the podium. Jace Coe
placed first in the 160-pound
weight class, Bryan Col-
lins placed third in the
120-pound weight class and

With the weather turn-
ing increasingly colder,
National Honor Society and
ASB officers kicked off the
holiday season by holding a
hat and glove drive for the
local Neighborhood Center.
The club collected $2 from
students in exchange for the
ability to wear hats or hoods
in school for a day.
With the money earned,
NHS and ASB purchased
over 25 pairs of gloves and
17 hats that will be donated
to children and adults in
need.
