THANK YOU
It’s hard to see good in
the world when a loved
one loses their battle with
a devastating illness like
cancer. However, the past
month has shown our fam-
ily just how much good
there is in our little com-
munity. First, we would
like to thank Dr. Ham-
bleton, Dr. Jim, and the
staff of Pioneer Memorial
Hospital for their excellent
care. Second, we would
like to thank members of
South Morrow County
EMS, particularly Stepha-
nie Rill, and Heppner Fire
Department who showed
up on duty and off when-
ever we needed help and
treated Jim with kind-
ness and dignity at every
turn. The family of Alita,
John, and Kellie Nelson
have helped with every-
thing from providing a
wheelchair that would fit
Jim, to helping decorate
and organize the celebra-
tion of life held before he
passed, to helping Donna
navigate her housing situ-
ation after his passing. We
would like to thank our
close and extended family
who dropped everything
when things took a turn
for the worse and came
down to help make the
house wheelchair accessi-
ble, build a ramp, and cele-
brate Jim. We truly believe
that it gave him peace to
have his family come and
allowed him to let go of
his suffering. Thank you
to Chris Humphreys and
Jay Coil for showing up to
help a man they had never
even met when he was too
weak to get up without as-
sistance. Thank you to Pat
Sweeney who helped us
navigate one of the most
difficult days of our lives.
Thank you to those of you
who called, stopped in, or
texted offering condolenc-
es and support when you
learned of Jim’s passing.
It meant a lot to hear from
you. Thank you to Teri
Denton for gifting Donna
with a haircut after months
of being unable to get to
the hairdresser. Thank you
to Nathan and Kasandra
Kennedy for continuous-
ly checking in on Donna
while she was hospitalized
after Jim’s passing, help-
ing get a fire started in
her house when she was
discharged, and providing
extra wood to help keep
her house warm this win-
ter. We know there are
probably multiple other
kindnesses that we don’t
know about and we are
grateful for this commu-
nity.

Smith (Donna, Shannon,
Shane, Tracy, and Marcie)
