Mustangs stomp Bandon in
first playoff game
Amanda Rea joins race for
county treasurer
Amanda Rea of Ione
has joined the run for Mor-
row County Treasurer. Rea
grew up on a dryland wheat
farm outside of Ione and
attended school in both
Ione and Heppner. She
graduated high school at
the same time she received
her Associates Degree from
Blue Mountain Community
College. She then ventured
to Eastern Oregon Univer-
sity where she graduated
with a bachelor’s degree
in business administration.
While finishing the last
term of her bachelor’s de-
gree she began working as
an appraiser for Umatilla
County Assessor’s office.
While growing up, Rea
spent her summers working
on her parents, farm, grand-
parents, alfalfa farm and a
neighboring wheat harvest
crew. Also, while attending
Eastern Oregon University,
she worked for a saw mill
and interned for a potato
farm near Boardman.
When not working
Amanda reported she en-
joys spending time in the
mountains snowmobiling,
camping, dirt bike riding
and hunting. She said she
also enjoys golfing, jet ski-
ing, watching her brothers
play football and spending
time with her family.
Amanda indicated she
Amanda Rea
has learned that respect,
discipline and hard work
pay off and she is always
willing and eager to learn
something new. Amanda
states, “It would be a true
privilege to work as the
treasurer of Morrow Coun-
ty.”
Quarterfinal game to be played Saturday
The Heppner Mustang
football team won their
opening round game of the
OSAA 2A State Football
Championship by defeating
the Bandon Tigers 49-0.
Heppner will now host a
quarterfinal game against
the Warrenton Warriors
this Saturday. The Warriors
were the second-place team
from Special District 1 and
finished the season with a
7-2 record. They defeated
Sheridan in the first round
by the score of 35-20 to
advance to the quarterfinals.
Bandon kicked off to
start the game and forced
the Mustangs to punt the
ball. This was the only
time that Heppner had to
punt in the game as they
scored on their next seven
possessions.
The strong Mustang
defense made Bandon punt
the ball on their first pos-
session and that gave the
offense great field position.
Heppner needed only three
plays to score their first
touchdown when Blake
Wolters took a handoff and
ran four yards for the score
to make it 6-0.
On the next Tiger pos-
session, Jason Rea dove and
intercepted a pass that gave
the Mustangs great field
position at the Bandon 27-
yard line. Heppner took ad-
vantage of that and scored
six plays later when Mason
Lehman ran 16 yards for
the touchdown, making the
score 12-0.
Kannon Wilkins kicked
off for the Mustangs and
pinned the Tigers deep in
their own territory. Brock
Hisler then tackled a Tiger
running back so hard that
he fumbled the ball and
Jayden Wilson recovered it
for the Mustangs. Heppner
scored four plays later when
Wilson threw a 23-yard
touchdown pass to Jackson
Lehman. That made the
score 18-0 as the first quar-
ter came to an end.
On the next Bandon
possession, Wilson forced
a fumble that Roy Collins
recovered. The Mustangs
scored on the very next
play when Wilson threw a
perfectly placed pass that
Kason Cimmiyotti caught
and ran into the end zone
for a 41-yard touchdown
completion. Wilson then
threw to Jackson Lehman
for the 2-pt. conversion to
make the score 26-0.
Another defensive
stand by the Mustangs and
the Tigers had to punt the
ball away again. The next
Heppner score came when
Wilson took off with the
ball and outran the entire
Tiger defense for a 50-yard
touchdown. Wilson threw
to Mason Lehman for an-
other 2-pt. conversion score
to make the score 34-0.
Bandon started to move
the ball on their next pos-
session until Matt Orem
sacked the Tiger quarter-
back and forced him to
fumble. Wolters jumped
on the ball and recovered
it at the Bandon 43-yard
line. Just six plays later
the Mustangs scored when

MCHD receives grant
The Morrow Coun-
ty Health Department re-
ceived a $10,000 grant from
the Wildhorse Foundation
towards the purchase of an
emergency generator for
the Boardman Health Dept.
office. The generator will
directly address a number
of public health and safety
issues and ensure continu-
ing county services during
an emergency.
First, it will provide
emergency power during
power outages to protect the
vaccine supply as exposure
to temperatures outside of
recommended storage can
impact the potency of vac-
cine. Loss of vaccine could
have a negative financial
effect resulting in the thou-
sands of dollars.
Secondly, the Board-
man Health Dept. could be
utilized as an Emergency
Operations Center (EOC)
during natural or other di-
sasters.
Thirdly, because the
clinic will have power
during outages, it will be
able to respond to public
health crisis such as epi-
demics, food borne illness-
es or other weather-related
emergencies and allow con-
tinued provision of critical
services.
The Morrow County
Health Dept appreciates the
Wildhorse Foundation and
their contribution to support
the health and safety of all
Morrow County residents.
The team with the better Adjusted Playoff Ranking (APR) shall be the designated home team (bottom team in the matchup).
