Spanish students celebrate Dia de los Muertos
During the first of No-
vember, students in Mrs.
Payne’s Spanish II, III and
IV classes learned about
and celebrated Dia de los
Muertos (Day of the Dead).
Dia de los Muertos is a
holiday celebrated in many
parts of Latin America and
is a time to remember and
honor loved ones who have
passed. This holiday is a
blend of indigenous and
Latin American culture
and has been celebrated for
Good Luck
Mustangs!
hundreds of years.
In present day it is cele-
brated in many ways; some
include parades, arts and
crafts, music, food, visiting
of the graves and creating
altars for the deceased.
Spanish II students created
ofrendas altars, or offering
tables, in memory of a
loved one. The ofrendas
include pictures, favorite
foods, drinks and pastimes
of the deceased. Spanish
III and IV students created
sugar skulls, maks and dec-
orated pumpkins.
