Mustangs take seventh win in a row
The Heppner Mustang
football team won their
seventh game in a row by
defeating the Weston-McE-
wen Tigerscots by the score
of 52-0. Heppner, the third
ranked team in the state,
completely dominated the
game from the very start
and picked up their sec-
ond conference win of the
season.
The Mustangs kicked
off to start the contest and
the outstanding defense
forced a Tigerscot punt.
Mason Lehman fielded the
ball, got some fantastic
blocking and took the kick
back 57 yards for a Mustang
touchdown. The score was
6-0 only a minute and a half
into the game.
After another
Weston-McEwen punt, the
Mustangs went on a six-
play drive that ended in a
score when Blake Wolters
ran the ball four yards for
the touchdown. Wolters
then ran in the 2-pt. con-
version to make the score
14-0. The next Tigerscot
possession was stopped
when Kason Cimmiyotti in-
tercepted a pass. The teams
then traded possessions and
the first quarter ended with
the score 14-0.
The next Heppner score
came early in the second
quarter when quarterback
Jayden Wilson passed the
ball to Mason Lehman for
a 20-yard touchdown play
to make the score 20-0.
The Mustangs pinned
the Tigerscots deep in their
own territory on the kick-
off and that led to another
Heppner score. Gavin Han-
na-Robinson broke through
the line and blocked a
Weston-McEwen punt and
the ball rolled through the
end zone for a safety. That
gave the Mustangs two
points and a 22-0 lead at
this point.
After the teams traded
possessions several more
times the Tigerscots punted
the ball to the Mustangs.
Mason Lehman fielded
the ball at the 42-yard line
and ran it all the way back
for another touchdown.
Kannon Wilkins kicked
the extra point to give the
Mustangs a 29-0 lead at
halftime.

and the Mustangs need-
ed only one play to score
again. Wilson dropped back
and found Mason Lehman
open and hit him with a 68-
yard touchdown pass. The
Wilkins PAT kick was good
again and the Mustangs led
36-0 only thirty seconds
into the half.
Weston-McEwen fum-
bled the ball on their next
possession and Conor Bros-
nan fell on it. The Mustangs
couldn’t get a drive going
on this possession and gave
it right back to the Tiger-
scots.
Cimmiyotti then
stepped in front of a
Weston-McEwen pass and
intercepted it to give Hep-
pner the ball back at the
Tigerscot 35-yard line. The
Mustangs scored five plays
later when Wolters ran 13
yards for the touchdown.
Wilkins made the PAT kick
to make the score 43-0.
On the Heppner kick-
off, the Tigerscots fumbled
the ball and Jace Coe re-
covered it to give the Mus-
tangs great field position.
Heppner scored on the very
next play when Wilson hit
Jackson Lehman with a 19-
yard touchdown pass. Once
again, the Wilkins PAT kick
was good and the Mustangs
now led 50-0 as the third
quarter came to an end.
The rest of the game
would be played with a
running clock because of
the 45-point rule. Hep-
