4-H leaders and businesses recognized

President, Heidi Nelson.
Each year all the volun-
teer 4-H leaders in Morrow
County have the opportunity to
nominate and vote on the 4-H
leader of year for the county.
This past year, Nancy Jepsen,
a longtime supporter and 4-H
volunteer was recognized with
this honor.
This past year the Morrow
County 4-H Leaders Associa-
tion selected three businesses
to receive the Friends of Mor-
row County 4-H Awards for
2018. The purpose of these
awards are to recognize busi-
nesses and individuals outside
of the program who have pro-
vided outstanding support to
4-H in Morrow County. Each
year at the annual county 4-H
achievement night, businesses
are recognized for their contri-
bution to the Morrow County
4-H Programs.
The first award was pre-
sented to Rogers Toyota of
Hermiston. For several years,
Roger’s Toyota has brought
display vehicles to our fair
and has also been the wheels
for our ambassadors during
the parade. In addition to sup-
plying vehicles, Rogers also
supports our members through
the livestock auction, purchas-
ing animals and giving back to
our community.
Another award was pre-
sented to Ross Machinery of
Hermiston. Ross Machinery
is modest in their contribution
to our program and while they
would prefer to remain ‘behind
the scenes’ we wanted to make
sure our county members knew
what efforts they have made
on our behalf. When it came
to new tent poles for our 4-H
camp, Ross Machinery stepped
up donating several hundred
dollars in materials. Addi-
tionally, they helped supply
materials for the hog ramp in
the barn for loading.
The final recipient of the
Friends of Morrow County
4-H award was presented to
Columbia Basin Electric Co-
operative. CBEC has been a
longtime supporter and con-
tributor to Morrow County
4-H. For years, they have

tion to the showmanship win-

ners in each species area to rec-
ognize hard work. CBEC also
purchases auction animals, has
helped repair the flagpole at the
extension office, adds addition-
al premium monies to show-
manship winners and makes
significant contributions to the
4-H Leader’s Council to use to
purchase awards for members.
They are a supporter of many
things outside of 4-H as well
and we’re lucky to have them
in our community.
