The council voted unanimously to grant the request. At the May meeting the council had heard a report from Mary Kay Bellamy who wants to put in an RV park on her property next to the old school building. She said the property would need to be rezoned from residential to commercial. Mayor Kemp suggested at that time that the council take a tour to find out what is being planned. Citizen John Edwards asked if the city well could handle the new development. -Continued from PAGE SIX Fourth St, Irrigon that RP port on SE Utah Ave, Irri- at 5:30 p.m. and the show begins at 6. The $60,000 -$75,000 project includes moving the current conference room into the lobby area of the building, moving a break- room into a current storage area and construction of three new offices spaces in the former breakroom location. In other action, the commissioners signed a lease with Stokes Landing Senior Center in Irrigon for use of two covered, enclosed parking spaces in which the county will park The Loop transportation bus and van. The county will pay Stokes $150 per month. The council also signed an agreement to continue having its yearly audit done with Barnett & Moro, P.C. of Hermiston. The county sent out a total of six letters requesting bids to firms in eastern, central and Portland, Oregon. Bar- nett was the only firm re- sponding with a proposal of a three-year agreement for $107,100. Commissioner Lindsay said she had some concern to keep awarding the audit to the same firm for a long period of time. “Not for anything they did. I just like to get another set of eyes on it (county fi- nances).” The commission- ers voted unanimously to accept the single proposal received and keep the same auditors. new Wheatridge Windfarm going under construction soon near Lexington, that the company pay to reha- bilitate a second unused city well located at the Lexington Airport. Wheat- ridge needs water for con- struction and wants to buy the water from the city, however the well needs work to get enough water out for the company. It was decided to invite Wheat- ridge to the July meeting of the council to discuss the matter further. In other business the council voted unanimously to give the two city employ- ees a cost of living raise of three percent for the coming year. The council heard a request from Shelia Miller Sheriff’s Report New building inspector hired By David Sykes The city of Boardman has hired Glenn McIntire as the new building codes inspector. He replaces long- time inspector Brett Cook, who recently retired. Like Cook, McIntire will be han- dling the building inspec- tions for Boardman, but also for the entire county. McIntire was intro- duced to the Morrow County Commission at last week’s meeting by Board- man City Manager Karen Pettigrew, who advertised, interviewed and hired him. McIntire, who has been on the job since May 20, was most recently the build- ing official for the city of Grain Valley, Missouri, population 13,683. “I’m glad to be here,” he told the commissioners. “We look forward to working with you and we are glad you are here,” Commissioner Don Russell said. To reach the building inspector, his phone number is the City of Boardman 541-481-9252 and his email is mcintireg@ cityofboardman.com. In other business at last week’s meeting, the com- missioners learned only one bid for the planned remod- eling of the Bartholomew Building in Heppner came in for $88,000. This was more than planned so Coun- ty Administrator Darrell Green said he would talk to the contractor and see if some parts could be redone in arrears right now and the city needs to work on getting those up to date. Beard suggested the city set up a payment plan saying, “We need to work with peo- ple because everyone has hard times.” Kemp agreed but said the council needs timely payments. “We are not the bank,” she said. The council voted to change the late notifications from 40 days to 60 days behind, and to shut off water 10 days following the 60-day no- tice. It was also suggested that in the case of renters, the property owners also get a late notice. Gordon noted that in many cities the water bills are included in a person’s rent payment and the landlord pays the city. The council also dis- Glenn McIntire Building Official In other business the county discussed the im- pending problem of sand dunes on the Navy Bomb- ing Range each year mov- ing closer to the county maintained Bombing Range Road. Commissioners are concerned with who is go- ing to take care of main- tenance once the dunes reach the road. Since 1994 the dunes have moved 650 feet closer to the highway. There are others but the closest dunes are located in an area across from a potato shed on the Navy side of Bombing Range Rd. Since the county has had problems working with the Navy on other issues on its Bombing Range property, such as wildfire and predator control, com- missioners are concerned they will get no help with controlling the dunes once they reach the highway. “They (Navy) are trying to make the sand dunes our problem,” County Planner Carla McLane reported to the commissioners. -MCSO received a re- port at Columbia Ln/W Eighth Rd, Irrigon that she thinks there may be a bag of dead dogs on the corner, black garbage bag.
