Mustang girls finish third
at state

The Heppner Mustang
girls’ golf team completed
another outstanding season
by finishing third at the
OSAA 4A/3A/2A/1A State
Golf Championship. This
is the sixth year in a row
that the Mustang girls’ team
has brought home a state
trophy. Last year’s team
finished second, the year
before that they were fourth
and the three years previous
to that they finished second.
This year’s state tourna-
ment was held at the Eagle
Crest Resort Ridge Course.
The Heppner team
came out strong on day
one and shot a 367 to put
themselves solidly into the
third position, 29 strokes
ahead of fourth place. On
day two they recorded a
374 to stretch their lead to
46 strokes over the fourth-
place team.
St. Mary’s of Medford
won the team title with a
two-day total of 638 and
Valley Catholic was second
with a 705. Heppner was
third with their 741 and
Woodburn took home the
fourth-place trophy with
a 787. La Grande finished
fifth by shooting an 802.
Other schools who
participated in the tourna-
ment were Astoria, Cascade
Christian, Waldport, Sea-
side, Baker/Powder Valley,
Sweet Home, Riverdale,
Wallowa/Joseph, Blan-
chet Catholic, Gladstone,
Oregon Episcopal, Salem
Academy and Mazama.
Both Nicole Propheter
and Sasha Keown from the
Heppner team finished tied
for eighth place overall and
received a medal and flag
for being on the all-state
team. Nicole shot a 169
(83, 86) and Sasha was 169
(82, 87). Caitlyn Scrivner
finished tied for 24 th place
with a 197 (99, 98) and
Claire Grieb came in at 206
(103, 103) to finish 34 th .
Kennisyn Wilkins did well
at her first state tournament
and finished 40 th as she shot
a 216 (106, 110). Suzy Ca-
son was with the team and
available as a substitute if
needed. A total of 60 girls
participated in the state
championship tournament
this year.
The Mustangs will lose
two seniors off of this year’s
state tournament team,
Claire Grieb and Caitlyn
Scrivner. Both of them will

Darrell, the Morrow Coun-
ty Administrator, are not
native to the Heppner area.

Deb was born and raised in
a small town near John Day,
Izee, OR where she attend-
ed a one room schoolhouse
with only seven students
until the eighth grade.
Green told the Gazette
that she rekindled a friend-
ship with a person who does
pop up events selling vin-
tage and farm style goods
in the Portland/Vancouver
area which inspired her
to open up her shop. Her
friend’s business, “Two
Sisters on the Fly” will
contribute items to the store
inventory to keep it always
changing. She said the store
is not a secondhand store
and will sell quality items.
Coral Mitchell’s handmade
pillows, including Charlie
Parker Organic pillows
will be available as well
as Park Hill candles in the
future. Local crafters are
invited to contact Deb to
add inventory.
Green noted that she
intends to open up the
back portion of the store
for small events like book
clubs, showers and small
