Peggy L Michel
Peggy L Michel was born Sept. 25,
1948 in Los Angeles, CA and died April
12 in Portland, OR. She lived in Lake
Isabella, CA and Heppner.
Peggy is survived by her husband,
Ted Michel of Heppner, a brother, a niece
and a nephew.

Community Easter
services scheduled
There will be two op-
portunities to worship to-
gether as a community
this week, sponsored by
the South Morrow County
Ministerial Association.
Everyone is welcome.

19, at 7 p.m. a communi-
ty service will be held at
Hopeful Saints Ministry
(the Episcopal building
at the corner of Church &
Gale) and will include a
reading of the Passion Story
from the Gospel of John as

the church gradually grows
darker.
On Easter Sunday,
April 21, the annual Com-
munity Sunrise Service will
be held at the fairgrounds
beginning at 7 a.m., with
breakfast to follow at the
Nazarene Church.
The offering gathered
at this service will benefit
local needs through the
Ministerial Association.

dress warmly and to come
as you are.

Mustang track and field continues
successful season
The Heppner Mus-
tang track and field team
continued their successful
season last Friday at the
Rivers Edge Invitational
in Umatilla. The 18-team
invitational featured several
large and small schools. In
the team scores the boys
finished in second place
behind Umatilla and the
girls team finished fourth.
Individually, several
Mustangs had top 10 per-
formances. On the boy’s
side, Hunter Nichols high-
lighted the meet with a Hep-
pner High School record
in the 800-meters with a
time of 1:57.42, besting
the 54-year-old record of
Tim Driscoll by almost two
seconds. Nichols also won
the 3000-meter race.
Derek Howard had
great marks with a personal
best and winning shot-put
mark of 49’10”. Howard
also finished third in discus
with a distance of 123’3.5”.
Carson Brosnan finished
eighth in discus and 10 th in
javelin with marks of 91’1”
and 115’11” respectively.
Blake Wolters was 10 th in
shot put with 33’1.75”. Jo-
seph Sherman finished sixth
in high jump at 5’4”. Jayden
Wilson finished eighth in
long jump at 17’11.5”,
eighth in the 100m with
a time of 11.95 seconds
and third in the 200m with
a time of 24.85 seconds.
Mason Lehman finished
seventh in the 200m at
25.41 seconds and fourth
in the 400m with a mark of
55.21 seconds.
Freshman Bryan Col-
lins finished fifth in the
100m and 10 th in the 200m
with times of 11.77 and
son, Mason Lehman and
Hunter Nichols.
For the girls there was
also some great success.
Hannah Finch finished sev-
enth in the 100m with 13.66
seconds and second in the
triple jump with a distance
of 30’11”. Madelyn Nichols
won the 3000 with a time
of 11:57.5 minutes and
second in the 800 at 2:32.45
minutes. Marlee Mitchell
captured sixth in the 400m
with a time 66.78 seconds.

25.73 seconds. Jacob Wal-
lace won the 110m hurdles
with a time of 17.95 sec-
onds. Leo Waite captured
third in the 300m hurdles
with a time of 46.54 sec-
onds and sixth in 110m
hurdles with a mark of
19.66 seconds.
Trevor Antonucci fin-
ished second in the 1500
with a time of 4:23.78
and finished second in the
3000-meter race. Jorden
Sweeney finished eighth in
the 1500 and sixth in the
3000 with times of 4:52.08
and 11:13.16 minutes. Trent
Smith finished seventh in
the 1500. Heppner’s 4x400
relay team capped off the
meet winning the race with
a state best mark of 3:39.79.

National Lineman Appreciation Day
scheduled for April 18
On Thursday, April
18, Columbia Basin Elec-
tric will celebrate National
Lineman Appreciation Day.
Columbia Basin Elec-
tric honors the dedicated
linemen who often work
in challenging conditions
to keep the lights on. Ac-
cording to a press release,
“We proudly recognize
all electric linemen for
the services they perform
around the clock in dan-
gerous conditions to keep
power flowing and protect
the public’s safety.”
The line workers are
the first responders of the
electric distribution system
and they work around the
clock on high-voltage lines.
Hopeful Saints
plans Holy Week
worship
Hopeful Saints Minis-
try will host the Holy Week
worship services at the
Episcopal building. Maun-
dy Thursday communion
service with foot washing
will begin at 7 p.m. and
will be followed by a light
agape meal.
The Good Friday com-
munity service will be held
at 7 p.m. on Friday with
Easter Sunday worship at
10 a.m. on Sunday. Bap-
tisms and communion will
be included. All services
will be held at the Episcopal
building.

Heppner Elks
schedule Easter
egg hunt
The annual Heppner
Elks Lodge Easter egg hunt
will be held at the Heppner
City Park by the Oregon
Trail Library on Saturday,
April 20 at 10 a.m. The
Easter Bunny will make an
appearance from 9:15 to 10
a.m. and everyone is invited
to bring their child and a
camera for a photo.
The egg hunts will be
divided into groups for
children ages 0-3, 4-7, 8-11
and 12+, with the youngest
group starting at 10 a.m. A
golden egg will be hidden
for each age group for an
extra prize.
The Heppner Elks
Lodge 358 and its members
sponsor the egg hunt each
year to support the youth of
the community. Egg recycle
containers will be available
for those wishing to leave
their plastic eggs for future
egg hunts.

been several mechanical
devices installed at the
lake to circulate water and
hopefully improve water
quality, she says none of
that has helped. She said the
first system cost $90,000
in 2004 and another effort
in 2009 for $346,000 did
nothing to help. Those fig-
ures were not confirmed by
the Corps.
Jones passed out slips
of paper asking those who
want to get involved to
give their name and contact
information as well as how
much time and in what ar-
eas they would be willing
to contribute. Several mem-
bers of the audience joined
in the discussion, with one
man asking: “Shouldn’t we
the people of Heppner be
able to say, ‘We want to use
this lake’?”
Community lunch menu
United Methodist volunteers will serve lunch on
Wednesday, April 24 at St. Patrick’s Senior Center. Lunch
will be parmesan crusted fish, rice pilaf, lemon broccoli,
sliced tomatoes, hot rolls and carrot cake lemon roll for
dessert.
Milk, coffee and tea is served at each meal. Suggested
donation is $3.50 per meal. Menu is subject to change.
