For Public/Legal Notices: public/legal notices deadline is Monday at 5 p.m. Dates for pub-
lication must be specified. Affidavits must be required at the time of submission. Affidavits
require three weeks to process after last date of publication (a sooner return date must be
specified if required).
For Obituaries: Obituaries are published in the Heppner GT at no charge and are edited to
meet news guidelines. Families wishing to include information not included in the guidelines
or who wish to have the obituary written in a certain way must purchase advertising space
for the obituary.
For Letters to the Editor: Letters to the Editor MUST be signed by the author. The Heppner
GT will not publish unsigned letters. All letters MUST include the author’s address and phone
number for use by the GT office. The GT reserves the right to edit letters. The GT is not
responsible for accuracy of statements made in letters. Any letters expressing thanks will
be placed in the classifieds under “Card of Thanks” at a cost of $10.

The Willow Creek
Country Club ladies start-
ed their golf season with a
breakfast meeting and fun
day on April 2. There was
a threat of rain, but they
made it through without
getting wet.
Scramble winners were
Betty Burns, Jeanne Cres-
wick and Sarah Rucker in
first place and Kim Carl-
son, Sue Edson and Loa
Heideman in second. Bev
Steagall had a chip-in on
number four and Karen
Haguewood had one on
number nine.
Regular play begins
on April 9 at 10 a.m., with
ladies being asked to arrive
by 9:30.
Prayer team
schedules meetings
The Heppner Prayer
team will meet on Wednes-
days, April 17 and 24 at
5:30 p.m. at the SDA church
on Minor Street. The com-
munity prayer focus on
April 17 will be Pioneer
Memorial staff and patients
and Willow Creek Assisted
Living staff and patients on
April 24.

The Heppner Mustang
track and field team has
quickly become a force to
be reckoned with. The team
boasts over 30 athletes and
continues to build. This
past week the Mustangs
showcased their talents at
the Carnival of Speed in
Milton-Freewater.
With several key ath-
letes out of competition
due to other school com-
mitments, the team still
was able to place well.
Several large school teams
were present which made
for some fierce competi-
tion. On the boy’s side, the
team finished fifth out of 22
teams and the girls finished
16 th .
Several Mustangs had
high finishes and many
even cracked the top 10 in
state rankings. On the girl’s
side Marlee Mitchell fin-
ished 10 th in the 400-meter
dash with a time of 69.02
seconds. Hannah Finch
had a ninth-place finish
in the triple jump with a
distance of 29 feet 4.25
inches. Madelyn Nichols
finished third in both the
800 and 1500 with times
of 2:31.98 and 5:17.05
respectively, both of which
are ranked in the top five
in state. The 4x400-meter
relay team consisting of
Hailey Holmgren, Marlee
Mitchell, Hannah Finch
and Madelyn Nichols fin-
ished fourth with a time of
4:47.81.
On the boy’s side Derek
Howard won the shot put
with 47 feet 5 inches and
was also fourth in discus
with a throw of 121 feet 7
inches, both of which are in
the top four in state rank-
ings. Jacob Wallace raced
to fifth-place in 110-meter
hurdles with a time of 18.27
seconds. Trevor Antonucci
finished fifth in the 3000
with a time of 9:47.85 and
sixth in the 1500 with a
time 4:31.23. These times
place him in the top five
for 2A state rankings. Trent
Smith finished fourth in the
1500 with a time of 4:26.86
and fifth in the 800 with a
time of 2:13.80. Both times
place Trent in the top four
in state rankings. Mason
Lehman was seventh in the
400 with a time of 55.34
seconds. The 4x100-meter
relay consisting of Conor
Brosnan, Brock Hisler,
Jackson Lehman and Brian
Collins finished 10 th with
48.90 seconds. Finally the
4x400-meter relay team of
Trent Smith, Brock Hisler,
Jorden Sweeney and Jack-
son Lehman finished fourth
in 3:58.19.

al on Saturday in Sandy,
OR. Hunter won the 1500
with a state leading time of
4:15.99 and finished second
in the 3000 with a 2A state
best time of 9:27.30.

CPR can be the
difference between life
and death, yet too many
adults are apprehensive
about stepping in during
a medical emergency,
either because they fear
handling a victim or lack
the knowledge of
giving CPR.
St. Patrick’s Parish vol-
unteers will serve lunch on
Wednesday, April 17 at St.
Patrick’s Senior Center.
Lunch will be Easter dinner
of glazed ham, scalloped
potatoes, green beans, apple
salad, hot rolls and rainbow
chip cupcakes for dessert.
Milk, coffee and tea is
served at each meal. Sug-
gested donation is $3.50
per meal. Menu is subject
to change.
Easter
egg hunt
to be held
in Ione
Ione’s annual Easter
egg hunt will be held Satur-
day, April 20 at 10 a.m. in
the Ione City Park. Children
up to the fourth grade are
invited to attend.
This event is made pos-
sible by sponsorships and
donations. Anyone wishing
to donate may do so at Bank
of Eastern Oregon in Ione.
