For Advertising: advertising deadline is Monday at 5 p.m. Cost for a display ad is $5.25 per
column inch. Cost for classified ad is 50¢ per word. Cost for Card of Thanks is $10 up to
100 words. Cost for a classified display ad is $6.05 per column inch.
For Public/Legal Notices: public/legal notices deadline is Monday at 5 p.m. Dates for pub-
lication must be specified. Affidavits must be required at the time of submission. Affidavits
require three weeks to process after last date of publication (a sooner return date must be
specified if required).
For Obituaries: Obituaries are published in the Heppner GT at no charge and are edited to
meet news guidelines. Families wishing to include information not included in the guidelines
or who wish to have the obituary written in a certain way must purchase advertising space
for the obituary.
For Letters to the Editor: Letters to the Editor MUST be signed by the author. The Heppner
GT will not publish unsigned letters. All letters MUST include the author’s address and phone
number for use by the GT office. The GT reserves the right to edit letters. The GT is not
responsible for accuracy of statements made in letters. Any letters expressing thanks will
be placed in the classifieds under “Card of Thanks” at a cost of $10.
Death Notices
Dicky Lynn Wilson – Dicky Lynn Wilson, 73, of
Happy Valley, OR died at Heppner on Sunday, March
17. He was born July 15, 1945 at Portland, OR. Sweeney
Mortuary of Heppner is in care of local arrangements.
Velma M. Wight – Velma M. Wight, 101, died
Nov. 21, 2018 at Heppner. She was born July 30, 1917 at
St. Helens, OR. A memorial service will be held Friday,
April 5 at 2 p.m. at St. Patrick Senior Center in Heppner.
An obituary will follow in next week’s Gazette-Times.

Morrow SWCD
schedules meeting
Morrow SWCD will
meet Tuesday, April 2 at
the Ag Service Center in
Heppner, at 6 p.m. Agenda
items include comments
from the public, minutes
of the February meeting,
financial report, partner
reports and staff reports.

Local scholarships
available
The South Morrow
County Scholarship Com-
mittee will accept schol-
arship applications until 4
p.m. on Apr. 4. In Heppner,
applications may be turned
into Ginger Bowman at
Heppner High School and
in Ione, Stephanie McEl-
ligott.
The South Morrow
County scholarship com-
mittee will award scholar-
ships to a college-bound
Heppner High School or
Ione High School senior
based on academic achieve-
ment, community involve-
ment and financial need.
Students must be continu-
ing their education at a
community college, trade
school or four-year college
or university. Applications
will be accepted and award-
ed by the South Morrow
County Scholarship Inc.
board of directors using
their “common local schol-
arship application” and
must include a transcript
and principal/counselor
evaluation form.
The South Morrow
County Scholarship Trust
Committee, on behalf of the
LaRue family, will accept
scholarship applications
from Ione seniors until 4
p.m. on Apr. 4. Completed
applications may be turned
into Stephanie McElligott.
The Coach Del LaRue
scholarship was developed
in memory of Del LaRue,
a long-time teacher and
coach at Ione High School.
LaRue had a passion for
coaching basketball and
track and loved seeing stu-
dents set and achieve their
goals. After retiring from
teaching, he continued to
coach track for 12 addition-
al years. During this time
he helped many student
athletes achieve their goals
and was honored as national
Track Coach of the Year.
This fund awards one
$1,000 scholarship to a
college-bound Ione High
School senior based on
demonstrated academic
achievement and commu-
nity involvement, with pref-
erence given to students
who have participated in
the Ione High School track
program.
Students must be con-
tinuing their education at a
community college, trade
school or four-year college
or university. Applicants
must have a minimum 3.0
accumulated GPA, have
attended Ione High School
all four years of high school
and shown involvement in
community activities. Ap-
plications will be accepted
and awarded by the South
Morrow County Scholar-
ship Inc. board of directors
using their “common local
scholarship application”
and must include a tran-
script.
Area wide power
outage scheduled
Columbia Basin Elec-
tric Cooperative, Inc. has
announced a planned, area
wide power outage begin-
ning on Friday, April 5 at 10
p.m. with re-energization
scheduled for 7 a.m. Sat-
urday, April 6. The Bonne-
ville Power Administration
announces the outage at the
Boardman Substation will
impact all CBEC members
except those served out
of the Condon and Fossil
substations.
The outage is neces-
sary for BPA personnel
to replace equipment in
the Boardman Substation
which supplies power to
the bulk of CBEC’s service
territory. Columbia Basin
Electric apologizes to those
affected for any inconve-
nience this outage may
cause, but every measure
was taken to schedule the
outage at the least disrup-
tive time possible.
All CBEC members
served out of Heppner,
Ione, Sandhollow, Ruggs,
Alkali and Olex will be
impacted by this outage.
Members who are un-
sure if they will be affected
by the outage should call
Columbia Basin Electric at
541-676-9146.
The community is in-
vited to the Singspiration to
be held Sunday, March 31
at the Community Church
in Lexington. The service
begins at 6 p.m. and is
followed by a time of fel-
lowship with refreshments
being served.
An offering will be
taken which will go to the
Morrow County Ministe-
rial Association (MCMA)
Benevolence Fund. The
funds are used to help with
emergency needs that arise
for people in the commu-
nity. For those who would
like to contribute and are
unable to attend, donations

Singspiration
scheduled
Community lunch menu
Christian Life/Firelight volunteers will serve lunch on
Wednesday, April 3 at St. Patrick’s Senior Center. Lunch
will be Philly cheese steak sandwiches, jo-jos, coleslaw,
cucumbers and onions and raspberry parfait for dessert.
Milk, coffee and tea is served at each meal. Suggested
donation is $3.50 per meal. Menu is subject to change.
Keegan Gibbs elected state FFA treasurer

Keegan Gibbs was elected
Oregon state FFA treasurer at
the state FFA convention held
at the Deschutes Fair and Expo
Center in Redmond March
22-25.
Keegan, the son of Jay
Keegan Gibbs
and Sue Gibbs of Heppner,
also received his state FFA de-
gree, along with Jacee Currin,
Jaiden Mahoney and Matthew
Orem, all members of the Hep-
pner FFA Chapter.
