During the first of No-
vember, students in Mrs.
Payne’s Spanish II, III and
IV classes at Heppner High
School learned about and
celebrated Dia de los Muer-
tos (Day of the Dead). Dia
de los Muertos is a holiday
celebrated in many parts of
Latin America as a time to
remember and honor loved
ones who have passed.
The holiday is a blend
of indigenous and Latin
American culture and has
been celebrated for hun-
dreds of years. In pres-
ent day it is celebrated in
many ways; some include
parades, arts and crafts,
music, food, visiting of the
Country Community
Awards event will be held
Feb. 7, 2019 at the Mor-
row County Fairgrounds
beginning at 6 p.m. The
theme for the event will
be An Evening with the
Stars and nominations will
be accepted from Nov. 16,
2018 through Jan. 11, 2019.
Community members
may be nominated for
Woman of the Year, Man
of the Year, Business of
the Year, Citizen-Educa-
tor of the Year, Lifetime
Achievement and the Youth
Award. Completed nomina-
tion forms must be turned in
to the Heppner Chamber or
considered.

Eastern Oregon, the cham-
ber office, Community
Bank, Heppner city hall
and Kuhn Law office. For
