4-H club to hold
meeting
First Friday session

The Homestead 4-H Club will hold their next meeting
on Nov. 4 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Ione Legion Hall.
Topics to be discussed will include ducks, horses, rabbits
and thank you notes.

scheduled
The Neighborhood
Center will be holding a
canned food drive on Mon-
day, Nov. 5 with local high
school students picking up
the donations. Those wish-
ing to have their donations
picked up should leave their
porch light on by 5:30 p.m.
Donations may also be
dropped by the center at 441
N Main Street in Heppner.
Church to host
Kenya fundraiser
The Heppner United
Methodist Church will host
a “Kick-off” potluck with
Kenya stew on Sunday,
Nov. 4 at 11:30 a.m. Partic-
ipants may contribute fruit
to the potluck if they wish.
During the potluck,
Rev. Jim Monroe will tell
about his experience on his
mission trip to Kenya this
past summer. The potluck
will kick off the project
the church is undertaking
to raise $3,500 to pay for a
house in Kenya.

Revenue opens

An open house to cel-
ebrate the new Oregon
Department of Revenue
call center in Fossil was
held Oct. 23 in the Jeanne
E. Burch Family Services
building.
The call center, which
is the first stand-alone call
center for the department,
will be staffed by six cus-
tomer service representa-
tives and one manager. Last
year the department’s main
call center received more
than 639,000 calls from
taxpayers with questions
about filing, paying and
other tax related topics. The
Fossil call center will assist
with answering the calls,
providing quality service to
Oregon taxpayers.
According to a spokes-
person, the project in
Wheeler County is expect-
ed to bring family wage
jobs and benefits to the
county and was brought
about by local, regional
and state partners working
together.

Colon cancer
screening kits
offered
The Morrow County
Health District, which in-
cludes Pioneer Memorial
Clinic, Ione Community
Clinic and Irrigon Medical
Clinic are participating in
the effort to provide colon
cancer screening kits. The
FIT kit, which is a screen-
ing kit that can be done at
home, checks for blood in
the stool and should be done
annually. The free kits can
be picked up at any of the
clinics.
Colon cancer is the
second most deadly form
of cancer, but it doesn’t
have to be. Screening can
catch it early when it is
highly treatable. According
the news release, men and
women should be screened

Ione Legion Hall. The doors
will open at 4:30 p.m., play
begins at 5 p.m. Dinner of
baked potatoes, hot dogs,
chili and all the fixings will
be available for purchase.
Bingo cards: first pack (nine
cards) and dauber $10;
additional packs for $5;
Blackout bingo sold sep-
arately for $5 each or $10
for three cards.

light Savings Times ends.
Tuesday, Nov. 6, Elec-
tion Day. Take the time
to vote and drop off your
ballot at any local Morrow
County ballot box prior to
the 8 p.m. deadline.

– hosted by Heppner Day
Care at the Heppner Elks
Lodge. A team of six is
$150; you can register on-

will be prizes for the top
