Liu wins June Yard of the
Month
By Kay Proctor
A small front yard with
a white picket fence, green
lawn, American flag and
lots of rose bushes has
received Heppner’s Yard
of the Month recognition
for June.
Located on North Main
Street, the home has been a
rental residence, but now
handles overflow from the
Northwestern Motel. The
two-story house with a
deep front porch was built
in 1910 and the yard is
compact, but full of color
and charm.
Alvin Liu has been
taking care of the grounds
since 2002 and states the
yard has been through some
tough times before he got it
to its present condition. It
has taken time to heal and
lots of hard work, including
reseeding the grass three
times.

Drive sober this 4
The Morrow County
Sheriff’s Office is promot-
ing a drunk driving preven-
tion campaign for the July 4
holiday period.
According to Under-
sheriff John Bowles, every-
one loves to celebrate the 4 th
of July with family, friends,
food and fireworks, but all
too often the festivities turn
tragic on the nation’s roads.
This iconic American holi-
day is one of the deadliest
holidays of the year due to
drunk-driving crashes.
The news release noted
that in the 4 th of July period
in 2016, 188 people were
killed in crashes involving
at least one driver or mo-
tor cycle operator with a
blood alcohol concentration
