Students from three counties
attend annual 4-H camp
Students from Morrow, Gilliam and Wheeler counties attended the annual Tri-County 4-H
camp.
Morrow, Gilliam and
Wheeler counties hosted
the annual Tri-County 4-H
camp June 13-17 at Cuts-
forth Park. The camp is de-
signed for fourth- through
sixth-graders from the three
counties and is facilitated
by the county agents from
those counties.
Although it is a 4-H
camp, students are not re-
quired to be 4-H members
to attend. The hope for the
camp is to inspire the kids
to move forward in their
4-H experience by gen-
erating excitement. This
particular camp is in its 30 th
year and hosted 71 students,
with 38 of those from Mor-
row County.
Twenty-two volunteer
counselors assisted with the
students who are housed in
big white tents at the park.
Tent groups include one to
two counselors and four to
six campers. There were
nine girls tents and six boys
tents this year. Counselors
are trained to help facilitate
the camp. With donated
funds, the Morrow County
4-H program was able to
Kevin Payne, Assistant District Manager and Natural Resource
Specialist for Morrow Soil and Water Conservation District,
helped 4-H members dissect trout at the annual Tri-County 4-H
Camp held at Cutsforth Park. Payne talked students through
dissection, parts and the reason we look at the insides of fish.
purchase 14 new canvas
tents to use at the 4-H camp
this year.
The camp includes
workshops, projects, team
building, goals and activ-
ities. The public is invited
to contact Erin Heideman
at the extension office if
they have a skill and would
be willing to teach it to the
students at camp next year.
