St. Pat’s visitors enjoy
festivities despite problems
To the Editor,
We just want to let the
townspeople know how
much we enjoyed the St.
Patrick’s Day festivities
and our trip from Idaho
Falls was worth it. To all
who worked on the parade,
good job.
There was one down-
side to our long-planned
trip, with the way one of
your merchants treated us.
In Dec. 2017, my husband
began searching for the
perfect birthday party for
me and found Heppner. Dan
found the Northwestern
Motel and RV Park. I called
the first week in Dec. and
spoke with someone, re-
serving the Leaves and Tree
room. I called again two
weeks later to reconfirm
as we were now mapping
out a 10-day trip and get-
ting very excited. I told the
person answering we would
call again on March 16 th as
we got closer to Heppner.
On Friday, about 5 p.m. I
called and the employee
was very confused about
our reservation and said he
would have to call me back
in 15 minutes. I refreshed
his memory about the reser-
vation. Dan and I knew then
we no longer had a room.
The person called back
saying, “My son worked the
desk yesterday and some-
body called and cancelled
the reservation, putting
their name on it. He just
thought it was you.” He
said, “Sorry about the mix
up, I just don’t want you to
drive three more hours for
nothing.” I asked him if he
could help us find another
room. He said, “You want
me to make a reservation
for you?” I said yes. He
said, “There are a couple
other places, just call.”
It was getting later and
dark. Dan and I were not fa-
miliar with the area, but we
knew we had to find help.
We started a search and
called the Oxford Suites
getting Jake, who was on
duty. He was perfect and
got us in and the stress dis-
sipated.
We visited Heppner on
Saturday for my birthday
party and it was obvious to
the locals we were visitors.
We had our dog with us and
so many people introduced
themselves and welcomed
us. We told some of them
about our experience at
the hotel. The opinion was
if you own the only hotel,
you can treat anybody any
way. A few mentioned we
were probably sold out for
a bigger rate.
We left Heppner with
good feelings after all, but
just wanted to let everyone
know how one merchant
treated us.
