Ash Wednesday service to be held A Hope Lutheran/ All Saints Episcopal Ash Wednesday service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church on February 14. The evening will begin with a soup supper at 6 p.m., followed by an Ash Wednesday service with imposition of ashes and communion. Everyone is invited to attend. Community lunch menu Christian Life and Firelight volunteers will serve lunch on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at St. Patrick’s Senior Center. Lunch will be chicken pot pie, green beans, car- rot salad, garlic bread sticks and lemon bars for dessert. Milk is served at each meal. Suggested donation is $3.50 per meal. Menu is subject to change. Vendor space available for St. Pat’s The Neighborhood Center, located at 441 N. Main St in Heppner, has vendor space available in their parking lot for the St. Patrick’s weekend celebra- tion. Spaces are 10 by 10 feet for $35 or 10 by 20 feet for $38 for the entire week- end. Vendors may set up at anytime Friday through Sunday and are responsible for all clean-up. Vendor fees are non-refundable; elec- tricity and public restrooms are not available. A spokesperson stated that the Willow Creek Park district is looking forward to this park and the benefits it will provide to commu- nity members of all ages. According to the news release, support from many community entities assisted in finalizing the park proj- ect. Some of those were Larry Mills representing the Morrow County Agri- cultural Museum, the Hep- pner Chamber of Com- merce, Heppner Junior/ Senior High school, Mor- row County Health Depart- ment, Community Health Improvement Partnership of Morrow County and the Morrow County board of commissioners. Silver Creek Contract- ing LLC., a local business, is the contractor for this project and reports that the park is scheduled for com- pletion in late May 2018. The Wellness Initia- tive for Senior Education (WISE) Program celebrates healthy aging and educates older adults on a variety of topics. This free program will take place at the Ione Community Church at 395 E. Main in Ione beginning Mar. 12 at 1 p.m. There will be one class a week for 6 weeks. This interactive and educational program offers six lessons that cover a wide range of topics. Participants will have an opportunity to meet new people and learn about the aging process and how to make healthy lifestyle choices; celebrate this exciting stage of life and all the benefits that come with it; discuss risk factors and behaviors older adults should avoid to stay healthy; examine how al- cohol, prescription medica- tions and over-the-counter medications affect seniors differently and how they can avoid problems and learn how to use simple tools to help them feel more empowered about their health and the healthcare they receive. Free refreshments will be served at each lesson, and all program participants will be eligible to receive giveaways for participating in the program. Cattle Barons seeking scholarship applications Free program to educate older adults Pendleton Cattle Bar- ons Weekend is currently seeking scholarship appli- cations from young adults in Umatilla and Morrow Counties. In 2017, the Cat- tle Barons organization, with a boost from its many sponsors, provided $12,000 in scholarships to eight de- serving students involved in agricultural studies. Applications for the Pendleton Cattle Barons scholarships are currently available on the Cattle Bar- ons website - https://www. cattlebarons.net/. Applica- tions are due Apr. 20, with final selection of scholar- ship awards to be made during the Cattle Barons events May 11-12. Appli- cants for the scholarships must currently be, or plan to be, enrolled in undergradu- ate or graduate agricul- tural studies and be from the eastern Oregon counties of Umatilla, Morrow, Grant, Baker, Wallowa and Union. This year’s event, held Mother’s Day weekend, will feature a stock sad- dle bronc championship, a ranch rodeo, an invita- tional select gelding sale, a working cow dog sale, an engraved jewelry and leather work exhibition and demonstrations and the buckaroo barbeque chal- lenge. Net proceeds from sponsorships and activities of the two days are dedi- cated to the scholarship pro- gram that has contributed over $60,000 to support the education of young adults that preserve the ranching heritage of eastern Oregon. Each day will host multiple activities, includ- ing different dress up days. Tuesday Dress Up day is Camouflage day and will include Ag trivia on an- nouncements, elementary coloring contest and a straw bale bucking contest as the lunch time activity in the shop. Wednesday Dress Up day is John Deere vs. Case day and will also include Ag trivia on announce- ments, an assembly at 1:30 p.m., food presented for the MC Back Pack program, announcement of the el- ementary coloring contest winners, the Dr. Brown reception in the shop at 2:30 p.m. and chapter meeting from 4-5:30 p.m. Thursday is Pajama dress up day, with a log sawing contest in the shop as the lunch time activity and Ag trivia on announce- ments. Friday will be FFA Blue and Gold dress up day where members who wear official dress all day will earn tickets into a drawing for FFA gear every hour, Ag trivia on announcements and ice cream sundaes in the shop for the lunch time activity.
