Dinner tickets for Heppner
Chamber’s Annual Town
and Country Community
Awards Dinner event on
Thursday, Feb. 8 went
on sale Friday, Jan. 12.
Tickets are available at the
Bank of Eastern Oregon,
Heppner Chamber, Hep-
pner City Hall, Commu-
nity Bank and Murray’s.
Ticket prices this year are
$25 each until the week
of Feb. 5, at which time
they will be $30. Reserved
tables will be available
on a first come, first serve
basis by purchasing round
tables of eight or long
tables of six. Contact the
Heppner Chamber for
more information or to
reserve seating at 541-
676-5536.
Feb. 5, 6 and 7 from 7-8
p.m., a vegetarian cooking
class will be held at the
Heppner Seventh-Day Ad-
ventist Church. Meals for
breakfast, lunch and dinner
will be demonstrated along
with samples of each meal
prepared. Recipes will be
available. The class is free
but participants are asked
to RSVP to Erik at 541-
922-8697.
Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 10
a.m., Veterans and seniors
Town Hall meeting with Le-
gal Aid Services of Oregon
at the Irrigon Library. Legal
Aid Services of Oregon will
present information related
to Senior Planning (wills,
trusts, funeral trusts, estate
planning, bankruptcy) and
referrals to attorneys who
could assist with specific
needs. To arrange trans-

Heppner Chamber’s
Annual Town and Country
Community Awards din-
ner will be held on Thurs-
day, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. at
the Morrow County Fair-
grounds. This annual event,
coordinated by the Heppner
Chamber of Commerce,
recognizes nominated com-
munity members and a local
business for their involve-
ment in our community.
The theme for the event
will be” An Evening with
the Stars” and the awards
will recognize a Woman
of the Year, Man of the
Year, Business of the Year,
Citizen-Educator of the
Year, Lifetime Achieve-
ment and a Youth Award.
Dinner, catered by Alvin
Liu of Gateway Café, will
consist of prime rib, green
salad, green beans, roll and
dessert. So purchase your
tickets early and plan on
coming out and enjoying a
great community event and
celebrate with just a few of
the great community mem-
bers who make Heppner a
great place to live.
Sunday, Feb. 11 at 6
p.m., Valentine’s Dinner at
Heppner Christian Church.
Bring a date or come alone
for a Valentine’s Dinner of
prime rib, baked potato,
tossed green salad, roll and
cheesecake for dessert.
There is no charge for the
meal but donations will go
to Hope2Liberia.
Thursday, Feb. 15, the
Willow Creek Valley Eco-
nomic Development Group
is hosting their annual lun-
cheon from 12-1 p.m. in
the Senior Center dining
room with Gary Neal as
the speaker. RSVP no later
than Tuesday, Feb. 13 to
guarantee a lunch. Lunch
will be served by Alvin Liu
of Gateway Café and the
menu will consist of BBQ
ribs, BBQ chicken, BBQ
beans, potato salad and des-

Sunday, Feb. 18 at 8
a.m., Sweetheart’s Break-
fast at the Heppner Chris-
tian Church. Breakfast will
consist of pancakes, eggs
and bacon. The breakfast
is free.

VA Medical Center Town
Hall meeting. This Town
Hall presentation on VA
Modernization – the next
chapter in VA’s story of
change will be held in the
Irrigon Library and is for all
Veterans and any interested
community members. Mor-
row County transportation
will be provided by The

Patrick’s Celebration. The
St. Patrick’s committee is
busy planning this year’s

play “Searching for Mean-
ing” will be performed on
Thursday, Mar. 15 at 7 p.m.
at the St. Patrick’s Parish
Hall.
The Morrow County
budget committee is seek-
ing a volunteer to serve on
the Morrow County budget
committee. It would be a
three-year term, expiring
June 30, 2020. Morrow
County residents interested
in serving on the budget
committee should submit
a letter of interest to the
Morrow County finance
department, PO Box 788,
Heppner by Monday, Feb.

is offering Drop In Teen
Time on the 2 nd and 4 th
Thursdays of every month
at 6 p.m. Upcoming events

Mustang JV and C girls basketball teams continue to dominate
for the lady Mustangs were
Nicole Propheter with nine,
Alison Cecil and Susie Tee-
man with seven and Dakota
Durfey with six points.
The following day the
JV/C team traveled to Ione
to take on the Cardinals. A
hard fought battle went to
the Mustangs by a score
of 37-25. Nicole Propheter
scored 13 points, Dakota
Durfey eight and Aimee
Turrell with six points.
Marlee Mitchell had an
excellent game running the
point guard and distributing
the ball leading the team
with assists.
The girls traveled to
Stanfield on Jan. 27 and
continued their stellar de-
fense in a 39-11 blowout
over the Tigers. Aimee Tur-
rell led the team with eight
points followed by Nicole
Propheter with seven, Kay-
la McAninch and Makayla
Silvia with five points each.
Sage Ferguson continued
her solid three point shoot-
ing by dropping another
three ball.
Upcoming action for
the Mustangs include games
against Echo and Ione.

The Mustang girls JV
and combined JV/C basket-
ball teams have had a stellar
season. The lady Mustangs
are 16-3 and currently rid-
ing a 12 game win streak.
They have played very well
as a team with a different
stand out player each game.
On Jan. 20 the girls
traveled to Pilot Rock to
take on a tough Rockets
team. The Mustangs had an
impressive win on the road
winning 55-47. Top scor-
ers were Madelyn Nichols
and Alison Cecil each tal-
lying 14 points, followed
by Madison Ashbeck with
eight points.
Two days later the JV/C
team hosted Umatilla and
posted another exciting
win 34-27. High scorers

The Mustang wrestling
team traveled to Halfway to
compete in the Pine Eagle
Invitational last Saturday,
finishing in seventh place
with 52 points.
Leo Waite had the best
performance of the group
as he pinned Grant Union’s
Braden Spencer at 5:47
to win first place at 126
pounds. Trevor Antonucci
came close to the title at
120 pounds, but dropped
a 3-0 decision to Joseph’s
Zeb Ramsden and settled
for second place.
Rounding out the Mus-
tangs’ contingent was Su-
zanneah Cason taking fifth
place at 120 and Charles
Cason taking fifth at 160.
The Mustangs will be
traveling to Joseph on Fri-
day, Feb. 2 to compete in
the district tournament.
