Death Notices Obituaries Clarence M. “Cub” Bare Clarence M. “Cub” Bare, 85, passed away on Jan. 8 at Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles due to complica- tions of diabetes. Cub was born on Dec. 20, 1932 in Fossil, OR to Clarence M. and Veva (Edwards) Bare. Services will be held at a later date. Cub first attended school in Fossil then moved to Wamic after his dad died and later to Maupin, where he lived with relatives and friends while working his way through school. He graduated from Wasco County Union High School in 1951, where he was a standout athlete and made many lifelong friends. After high school Cub joined the Navy, serving from 1952- 1956. He then took advan- tage of the G.I. Bill to earn a degree in education from Eastern Oregon College. While attending EOU, he was a member of the 1956 football team which was later inducted into the EOU Hall of Fame Class of 2006. He met Mary L. Swiger of Baker and they married on Jan. 18, 1958 in LaGrande. They moved around eastern Oregon and eventually set- tled in Condon where they raised their three children. Cub had several dif- ferent careers throughout his life, all of which he was proud of. He did odd jobs on farms, a sawmill and restaurants when he was young, often washing dishes or chopping wood for a meal. After college he taught grade school in Heppner and Condon, then decided he would rather be outdoors and spent many years working on and man- aging farms. He and his son, Tom, also started the T & D Storage business, which he managed until his death. Cub was most proud Morrow County budget committee seeks volunteer Becky S. Community lunch menu Vegetarian cooking class to be held A three-day vegetar- ian cooking class will be held Feb. 5, 6 and 7 from 7-8 p.m. at the Heppner Seventh-Day Adventist Church that will cover reci- pes for each of the basic meal times. The class is geared to- ward learning what a vege- tarian eats, what to make for of his family. He was fre- quently seen (and heard) sitting in the front row of his children’s and grand- children’s events, travel- ing many miles across the northwest to support them. He enjoyed family and school reunions and could spend hours sharing stories and reminiscing. He hosted the Edwards family reunion in Condon this past Septem- ber and got to share more of his family’s history and the family homestead near Fossil with his immediate family and several of his nieces. Cub loved to fix things, rarely giving up on any piece of equipment and shared many “how- tos” with his children and grandchildren. He was a fiercely independent and hard-working individual who did anything he could to support his family.
