Dear Anson Strong sup-
porters,
Growing up in the small
community of Ione, I al-
ways remember the feel-
ing of constant support, no
matter how big or small the
feat. I recently made a visit
back to Ione. The Turner
girls, cousins of mine, or-
ganized an amazing fund-
raising event at the Legion
Hall for our son, Anson,
and it was quite over-
whelming for my husband,
Matt, and me to walk into.
I have always been on the
other side and never under-
stood just how emotional it
would be on the receiving
end.
Anson was diagnosed with
Acute Lymphoblastic Leu-
kemia just after his second
birthday in September. We
were devastated, but knew
with all the prayers, love
and support we would re-
ceive, we could beat this.
His diagnosis requires
three years of treatment
with frequent trips to Port-
land, at least once a week.
We cannot begin to ex-
press our gratitude for all
the support we have had,
emotional and financial. It
is beyond overwhelming to
feel the love from people I
have known since I was
little, as well as new com-
munity members. My par-
ents, Jim and Monica, have
always taught me to have a
caring and giving soul. I
have done my best and am
now motivated to do better.
This is what small towns
are all about, and I couldn’t
be more thankful for my
family and the communi-
ties of Ione and Heppner
for their support. The event
raised close to $14,000, an
amount I never imagined
would be needed. But it is
a big relief to have it, with
all the medical bills that
are beginning to come in
the mail.
Thank you especially to
my sister-cousins and
their husbands: Gregg and
Shelly Rietmann, Todd and
Missy Lindsay, Wayne and
Lori Seitz and Doug and
Sandi Martin. My brother,
Luke Swanson, took on the
task of reading our sum-
mary of Anson’s diagnosis
and journey, and it was ap-
preciated very much. Also
to the other family and
friends who helped with
the event. And, of course,
Thank You to our friends
and community members
who attended and contrib-
uted. There were so many
auction items donated that
were very appreciated.
With the continued prayers
and support from everyone
we can continue to be AN-
SON STRONG! He is one
loved and lucky little boy,
and we are proud to be his
parents!
With Love,
The Fairbank Family,
Adrienne (Swanson), Matt,
Hailee and Anson
