Landing Lodge
contractor refutes
county comments
To the editor:
In response to your
article about the Landing
Lodge and the county, I
feel compelled to correct
some of the information.
Firstly, the county is paid
10 percent, not 5 percent. It
has been that way the entire
time we were operating it. I
have a signed contract that
shows that.
I have emails from Kim
Cutsforth stating the chang-
es they wanted to make at
the restaurant including
making park guests a pri-
ority, changing our hours
while adding to our menu.
While it is true that we kept
the balance of the gross
sales, from that balance
came our suppliers, staff,
insurance, donations to the
Heppner Mustangs etc. We
employed two people who
now are unemployed.
Basically, they wanted
to change a business that
was privately owned and
that had an increase in sales
of 26.5 percent from 2016.
As far as “doing things out-
side the contract”, that is a
mystery. My contract shows
no provisions like that. I am
interested to know what
that is. Supporting the local
booster club? Employing
locals?
They did mention that
they did not know we were
feeding firefighters while
they were staying at the
park. Would that not make
them park guests? However
the county gladly took the
10 percent commission
from those sales and has for
the past three years. There
are so many untruths about
how this came about, but
enough is enough. After be-
ing told by a commissioner
to stand our ground, Kim
stated in her last email to us
that “I can add that it would
be difficult for the county
to continue under this pro-
gram.” A private meeting?
No public? People who
have never set foot in there
deciding what a private
business needs to do? At
that point we knew they
didn’t want us.
We worked hard, did
well, and yes we are insult-
ed to say the least. I hope
the county finds what they
are looking for in a vendor.
I wish the new vendor much
success. I will miss all my
customers, but I have the
memories, pictures and all
the new friendships to take
with me.
