Ione Community
Church welcomes
interim pastor
Ione Community
Church has welcomed a
new temporary interim
minister to their church
over the last month. For-
mer pastor, Stacy Shelton,
accepted a call to the Med-
ford Disciples of Christ
church and moved in May.
Pastor Richard W. Jensen
began his interim ministry
with the church on Sunday,
Aug. 6. The role of an in-
terim ministry is to provide
pastoral leadership to the
congregation during the
transitional time between
permanent ministers. The
church will be electing a
search committee at the
Church Council meeting
this week, whose role will
be to do a formal search for
the next minister.
Richard W. Jensen
is an ordained minister
in the Disciples of Christ
Church and has training in
intentional interim ministry,
which means he has chosen
to minister to churches who
are in need of transitional
leadership. Pastor Jensen
has a Masters of Divinity
from Vanderbilt Divinity
School, Nashville, TN and
a Doctorate of Ministry
from Christian Theological
Seminary in Indianapolis,
IN. He was ordained in
Kansas in 1973. He has
served churches in Indiana,
Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska
and South Dakota and has
been working as an interim
minister since 2011. He
most recently served the
First Christian Church in
Mesa, AZ. His wife is also
a pastor and is serving an
interim ministry in Boi-
se, ID. Because of this he
will serve only 3/4 time, a
minimum of three Sundays
and 14—18 weekdays per
month. Regular pulpit sup-
ply will occur on the other
Sundays.
Pastor Jensen will be
available for the pastoral
needs of the community
and congregation such as
counseling, weddings, fu-
nerals, and hospital calls.
His Omaha, NE cell phone
number is 402-301-3279.
Feel free to call him if you
are in need of such services.
Pastor Jensen will be living
in the parsonage next to the
church. Please stop by and
welcome him to the com-
munity.
The church’s Sunday
services are at 10 a.m. at
470 E. Main St., Ione. For
more information, call 541-
