Boardman group invites all quilters
Boardman Quilt Group
invites interested quilters
to join them on Monday
mornings, 9 a.m. to 1:30
p.m., for quilt construction,
quilting updates, educa-
tion, a bit of history and
friendship. Boardman Quilt
Group meets at Boardman
Senior Center, 100 Tatone
Street, next to Boardman
City Hall.
There is no fee to par-
ticipate. In addition to proj-
ects of individual choice,
there are occasional pre-
sentations by regional quilt
artists.
Quilt group members
are currently learning sto-
ries and histories of quilt
block designs that were
popular at the time of Or-
egon Trail migrations. The
Oregon Trail River Route
passed along the Colum-
bia River and the site of
present-day Boardman.
The second Oregon Trail
inland route passed through
Wells Springs, 17 miles
south of Boardman. The
proximity of both historic
routes prompted Boardman
quilters to learn more about
life on the trail.
On May 15, the group
will travel to Stanfield for a
lesson on “How to make a
Hexagon block with no ‘Y’
seams.”
For regular meetings,
quilters are asked to bring Marsha Connell with her Autumn Adventure scrappy quilt.

annual scholarships award-
ed to local seniors, this year
the scholarship trust has
announced a recipient for
the first annual Coach Del
LaRue Scholarship.
The first recipient of
this award is Katelyn Bass.
The Coach Del LaRue
Scholarship was devel-
oped in memory of Del
LaRue, a long-time teacher
and coach at Ione High
School. Del had a passion
for coaching basketball
and track and loved seeing
students set and achieve
their goals. After retiring
from teaching, Del contin-
ued to coach track for 12
additional years. During
that time he helped many
student athletes achieve
their goals and was honored
as national Track Coach of
the Year.
This fund awards one
$1,000 scholarship to a
college-bound Ione High
School senior based on
demonstrated academic
achievement an commu-
nity involvement, and with
preference given to students
who have participated in
the Ione High School track
