Morrow County 4-H
members have been par-
ticipating in a three-session
series of cooking camps.
Camps are led by 4-H lead-
er Sandi Richardson with
help from her husband Dan
Richardson, volunteer Deb-
bie Sumner, and parent and
leader volunteers at each
camp.
Cupcake Wars was the
theme for the first of the
cooking camp series. Each
member’s cupcakes had
a theme, and a lot of fun
was had. After the Cup-
cake Wars were over, each
member donated a total of
48 cupcakes to the Willow
Creek Terrace Assisted Liv-
ing in Heppner for their
residents to enjoy.
The second camp
theme was Pies and Tarts;
members learned the art
of making pie crust. This
is a skill many will use at
fair, and throughout their
life. Members donated 24
hand-made tarts to the resi-
dents of the Willow Creek
Terrance Assisted Living in
Heppner.
The next camp will be
themed Breads and Pasta,
and has already been filled
with RSVPs from eager
members.

must pledge their “hands to
larger service,” and mem-
bers are encouraged to learn
through giving back and
community service. Leader
Sandi Richardson says this
is why she felt it was im-
portant for kids not only to
learn cooking skills but also
to take it a step further and
give back to their commu-
nity by donating their baked
items as a community ser-
vice project.
