Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, March 22, 2017 Murray’s team wins O’Planky Relay Race Welly toss winners announced - THREE The Smart Aussses 2017 Road Bowling Champions Nine teams participated in the Road Bowling competition during the St. Patrick’s Festival in Heppner this year and, of course, the Smart Aussses, consisting of Adrian Haney, Caleb Beal and Chris Fritz, took the prize for first place with a score of 33. Second were the Bowl Roaders, Elliott Strouse, Duane Dyer, Peter Wenberg and Nels Wenberg, with a score of 34. Coming in third were the Munsons, Mike Angell, Emily Thompson, Wacy Coil and Keenan Jack, with a score of 36. The Murray Team, (l-r) Ian Murray, Sean Murray, John Murray and Kevin Murray, took first place in the O’Planky Race The Murray’s team, consisting of Kevin, Ian, Sean and John Murray, won first place in the O’Planky Race held on Saturday before the Great Green Parade in Heppner. They won a free drink donated by Cornerstone Gallery. “The O’Planky” Team Relay Race, brought back from previous St. Patrick’s celebrations, proved to be a huge success,” said Sheryll Bates of the Heppner Chamber of Commerce. “Voices could be heard cheering for each team and you heard a “left, right” in the background from the teams as they attempted to move their team forward with each step. There were five teams represented and it was very entertaining to watch. I am sure we will have tougher and even more team competition for next year. The community looks forward to cheering on their favorite team.” The men’s teams were: the Forest Service Men’s Team, consisting of Brian Spivey, Jon Ellis, Jeromy Wilson and Ben Firgens; the Murray’s team consisting of Kevin, Ian, Sean and John Murray; and the last team with no team name was made up of Shane Lazinka, Wacy Coil, Brandon Seitz and Bailey. The women’s teams were: Lucky Charms, consisting of Angela Jones, Kasandra Kennedy, Pam Cutsforth, Gina Wilson, and The Shenanigals, consisting of Amanda Fabian, Liz Johnston, Toni Young and Katherine Botsford. The winner of the women’s team was the “Lucky Charms” and they also received a free drink donated by Cornerstone Gallery. Wranglers hold can drive Wranglers Riding Club is having a can drive and is asking all residents to bring their empty cans to the collection trailer parked behind Les Schwab Tires from Thursday, March 16, to Thursday, March 23. Do- nations will help fund the youth play days this spring. Blue Mountain Community College is of- fering a series of investment classes in Heppner. The classes are offered begin- ning April 4 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and will meet at the Pettyjohn Building, 430 West Linden Way. The classes are de- signed to help attendees gain the skills to estimate how much money they need to retire, learn about various ways to save for retirement and the basics of retirement income planning. The class series will be held on three consecutive Tuesdays as follows: Investment Basics- April 4, Retirement basics- April 11, and Retirement Income Planning- April 18. The instructor is Rita Van Schoiack, a financial advisor who is owner of Blue Mountain Investment Management LLC. The classes are free and include a workbook. Advance registration is required. Food box giveaway set Sunday afternoon March can seem like a long month when groceries run low and the kids are home on spring break. But help is available. Area churches are again donating to a gift of food to anyone who comes to All Saints Episcopal Church parking lot this Sunday, March 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. The church is at the corner of Gale and Church Streets in Heppner, just behind the Neighbor- hood Center. Boxes are packed with canned, pack- aged and fresh foods, plus several hygiene items. They are free, and no questions will be asked.
